Highlights of the January Authority Meeting
2016 Annual Report
The Authority unveiled its 2016 Annual Report featuring:
  • Transportation investments totaling $1.1 Billion in HB 2313 Revenues, with project maps, illustrating impacts across the region.
  • Economic Impacts of the $1.1 Billion in project funding showing the benefits in employment and other economic activities. 
  • Public engagement opportunities with the update of the region’s long-range transportation plan, called TransAction.

TransAction Update: Public Engagement Summary
The Authority has placed a high value and emphasis on public engagement throughout Northern Virginia on the update of TransAction.  The 2016 spring and fall engagement activities provided the Authority with useful information on Northern Virginians’ transportation needs.  Over 4,100 people took the time to tell us what their transportation problems and priorities are, as well as their ideas for solutions.

Moving Forward
The FY2017 Program Standard Project Agreements (SPAs), were approved by the Authority.  This green lights the ability of project sponsors to move forward with their efforts in bringing multi-modal transportation solutions to Northern Virginia. 

FY2018 Regional Revenue Fund Budget
The Authority adopted its FY2018 Regional Revenue Fund Budget.  These funds are programmed through the Authority’s selection of future projects.  The total funds available for FY2018 are $248.8 Million and will be used in the development of the Authority’s first Six Year Program (FY2018-23).

FY2018 Local Distribution Fund Budget
The FY2018 Local Distribution Fund Budget totaling $98.1 Million was adopted by the Authority.  These funds are distributed to member localities for local projects of their choice, within the parameters of HB 2313.

The Northern Virginia Transportation Authority is a regional body that is focused on delivering real transportation solutions and value for Northern Virginia’s transportation dollars by bringing Northern Virginia jurisdictions and agencies together to prioritize projects and implement solutions.
The NVTA was created by the General Assembly on July 1, 2002, to offer a common voice for Northern Virginia on transportation issues confronting the region.  The Authority is made up of nine jurisdictions including: the counties of Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun and Prince William; as well as the cities of Alexandria, Fairfax, Falls Church, Manassas and Manassas Park.  The Authority is responsible for updating Northern Virginia’s long-range transportation plan, TransAction, and since 2014 manages approximately $340 million annually in public funds for transportation projects designed to provide congestion relief throughout Northern Virginia.  For more information visit
