Highlights of 2016 Accomplishments Thanks to the Support of Our Donors and Volunteers:

Educational Programs: By the end of 2016, we will have released 3 educational videos, 2 of which are Continuing Education Units on trauma-focused care targeted towards mental health professionals and 1 of which is targeted towards youth and young adults who have suffered Complex Trauma. We have also co-presented 1 in-person Continuing Education Unit Presentation to Licensed Clinical Social Workers.

Speaking Engagements: We have given 5 speaking engagements, with 1 more anticipated by the end of the year, to various groups including audience members of a play dealing with Domestic Violence, students (prior to 2016), mental health and medical professionals and people who have suffered various forms of trauma and their loved ones, across three major cities in the United States.

Resources: By the end of 2016, we will have over 35 mental health and supplemental care providers in our Approved Care Network in major cities throughout the United States who are certified in the most effective, cutting edge trauma treatment modalities beyond talk-therapy. This allows people who have suffered trauma to be certain that they are getting the most effective treatment available and saves them the time and energy of doing the extensive research on their own, making it simpler for them to get the help they need.

Our Team: We have put a team in place that includes nationally recognized nonprofit leaders, business leaders, including Bruce Perkins, and mental health professionals, including David Grand, PhD, author and developer of the trauma treatment modality Brainspotting. Our Artist Advocates include actors and singers who have starred on such well known TV shows as Orange Is The New Black and House of Cards as well as in the original Broadway cast of Rent, among others. We extend a huge welcome to the newest member of our team, leading trauma specialist and Executive Director of The Trauma Center at JRI, Joseph Spinazzola, PhD, who has joined our Advisory Board. You can read more about these talented and passionate individuals here.

Our Reach: Including our artist advocate outreach, we have reached potentially tens of thousands of people, spreading the knowledge of trauma’s impact on the brain and hope for healing in the light of proper treatment. One of our Artist Advocates, Emily Althaus of Orange Is The New Black, shared a video she made on Healing TREE to her near 81,000 followers on social media across platforms. Check it out here if you missed it!

We have been featured on 2 local news programs and in 1 local magazine, reaching thousands more. If you missed us in the media, check it out here. We have connected with hundreds of people at our in person events, including talk-backs after artistic performances, speaking engagements, continuing education unit presentations and our first annual gala. It is estimated that we will reach nearly 1 million more people in 2017 just with the release of the Complex Trauma video on JRI’s website, which gets over a million hits a year.

Next Year: In 2017, we plan to further expand our Approved Care Network, create and release additional Continuing Education Units targeted to professionals across different fields, increase our Speaking Engagements and produce Arts and Advocacy projects. Additionally, will be co-presenting a workshop alongside internationally renowned trauma expert, author and creator of Somatic Experiencing, Peter Levine, PhD and Betsy Polatin in New York City for performing artists and therapists on trauma and the performing arts in October of 2017.
