Welcome Downtown!

Let me begin this month by saying Happy Holidays to one and all! Yes, the holidays are here, and I know many of you are looking forward to this season's festivities. I am too as the holidays mean a packed calendar full of fun activities and even more opportunities than usual to get involved and give back to the community.

The fun begins early this month as shoppers in downtown Selah continue to "shop local" to complete their Business Bingo cards. I know many of you are racing toward the goal of being the first person to blackout their card. And I am excited to announce that SDA is offering a "Shop Selah" prize basket to the first person to hit that goal. Continue reading below for more information about the Business Bingo promotion. It's not too late to play!

Second Saturday activities return on November 12th. The theme is Veterans' Day. Already, we have several activities planned and local businesses and other organizations excited to participate! We invite all business owners to partner with us! Continue reading to find out how.

There are many other ways you can get involved in the community this month! As a business owner, you can attend our upcoming informational meeting on the Main Street B&O Tax Credit Program on Monday, November 7th, to learn how to self-direct your tax dollars to help improve downtown Selah. SDA is also sponsoring a Community Giving Tree to collect gifts for needy kids in the Selah School District. Small Business Saturday is coming up on November 26th and is your annual opportunity to support our small community by shopping local.

And lastly, I invite you to volunteer with SDA by serving on our Board of Directors or on one of our four committees active in the community. We at SDA welcome your involvement!

Keep Your Tax Dollars Local

Business Owners: Did you know you can keep your tax dollars local and receive a business tax credit by contributing to Selah Downtown Association?

Many businesses are required to pay an annual "Business & Occupation (B&O) Tax" to the Washington State Department of Revenue. The Main Street Tax Credit Incentive Program provides an opportunity for businesses to self-direct their tax dollars and keep their tax contributions in their own community. Through the Tax Credit Program, approved businesses that donate to SDA are eligible for a tax credit equal to 75% of their donation applied toward their annual B&O assessment.

Learn more about the Main Street Tax Credit Incentive Program at, or attend our upcoming Informational Meeting on Monday, November 7th, starting at 6 p.m., at Nana Kate's. Email SDA with any questions.

Football & Halloween in Downtown Selah by Ginger Brewer-Tyler
This month we're honoring Pastime Burgers, Brews & Spirits for their hard work and community involvement, and ongoing support of SDA. Pastime is located at 125 E. Naches Ave., in downtown Selah, and is owned by Shannon & Ginger Tyler.

In October, Pastime briefly closed its doors to the public in order to undergo a major renovation. During that brief time, the Tylers found creative ways to continue marketing to their audience and sharing news about the planned improvements. Pastime reopened in early October just prior to their annual Bands for Boobies fundraiser event on October 15th in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Pastime donated 100% of proceeds from the event to Yakima's Ohana Mammography Center.

Pastime also hosted the bar at SDA's 1st annual Red Carpet Gala: "Puttin' on the Ritz" event back in September and made a generous donation to further support SDA.

Thank you to Pastime for being such a valuable part of our downtown!
National Small Business Saturday is November 26th. SDA is partnering with American Express to help spotlight our local business community ahead of the upcoming holiday season.
