Welcome Downtown

Welcome back downtown, everyone!

First and foremost, I want to take a moment this month to thank the handful of businesses who were successful in their application to the Washington Main Street B&O Tax Credit Program. CHEERS! to  Allan Insurance Agency  Banner Bank  Escape the Maddness  King's Row  Natural Accent Flooring, Inc.  Selah Vision Clinic  and also the City of Selah. Thank you for your support and continued investment in our community!

Related to that, I want to say how proud and excited I am to see the growth of involvement in SDA over the past several months. Our volunteer numbers continue to grow, as do the number of businesses and community organizations who have expressed interest in partnering with us for upcoming programs, including our Second Saturdays, which kick-off again this month on Saturday, February 11th. Continue reading for more information.

Also coming up this month is the second session of The Roundtable: Business Academy, our monthly, business education series, which is brand new this year. These sessions are completely free and all are welcome! Lastly, I want to personally thank the members of our new Steering Committee leading the Selah Works! group. This group met for the first time in January and will be busy this year creating a new community group for "the next generation of civic leaders" in Selah. Stay tuned for more details about this group and what they have in store for all of us!

See you all downtown,

Whitney Stohr

"The Roundtable: Business Academy" continues Feb. 7

The Roundtable: Business Academy continues this month with a session on Tuesday, February 7th and the topic: Business Marketing: Planning on a Budget.

This month's session will feature two speakers:

Jacob Cobb is the co-owner of Selah Allstate Insurance and the Chair of the SDA Promotions Committee. Jacob will open this month's discussion with a presentation on how to use Microsoft Excel to collect and analyze data to inform a business marketing strategy.

The session's main speaker, Kelly Gasseling, is a Partner at Smith, Phillips & DiPietro Advertising & Public Relations firm in Yakima. Her firm has been in business since 1932 and is a full-service marketing agency. Kelly will answer important questions that every business owner should know: "How do I create a Marketing Plan for my business, and what key marketing strategies should my plan include?"

SDA's Business Academy is FREE and open to the public, and all new and aspiring business owners are encouraged to attend. The sessions are also a great opportunity for current business owners to network and learn new skills.

The monthly sessions are held the 1st Tuesday of the month, from 7:30 to 8:30 am, at Nana Kate's restaurant, located at 432 E. Goodlander Rd., in Selah. Coffee and pastries will be provided.
