DUT ENACTUS NAMED FIRST RUNNER-UP IN THE 2020 ENACTUS NATIONAL CHAMPIONS

The Durban University of Technology team was recently named the first runner-up in the 2020 Enactus National Championship after participating in the first Enactus South Africa Virtual National Competition.

DUT Enactus President Mthunzi Mapatwana said: “As the first runner-up, we are excited about how we have told our story and the impact we have had in different communities. For us, this was more than just a competition but it was a national platform to expose our creativity and showcase our project to South Africa at large. We are proud of who we are and what we have grown to become.

NDLOVU AIMS TO EQUIP STUDENTS WITH SKILLS THAT WILL MAKE THEM EMPLOYABLE IN THE CURRENT ECONOMY

The Durban University of Technology’s (DUT’s) Fanie Ndlovua Masters Student in Information and Communications Technology (ICT), is helping to achieve his digital goal through his VarsityGenie organisation.

Early this year Professor Sibusiso Moyo’s office, DVCResearch and Innovation (DVC: RIC), had granted R57 000 to the VarsityGenie DUT Chapter which was then called the DUT Innovation Club. He and his team are doing a sterling job of teaching and training DUT students and the Durban community around Microsoft 4IR tools.

DUT CONTINUES ITS QUEST TO MANUFACTURE 3D FACE SHIELDS AND ASSIST COMMUNITIES IN DURBAN

The Durban University of Technology (DUT) continues to help in the battle against COVID-19 by manufacturing and donating 3D printed face shields to communities in and around Durban.

Several students and staff from the Department of Information Technology and Mechanical Engineering are involved in the design and manufacture of 3D printed face shields. The team is led by  Ebrahim Asmal: Senior Lecturer-Department of IT and Dr Festus Mwangi -HOD-Mechanical Engineering together with other Mechanical Engineering and IT staff and students.

DUT’S NAIDOO WINS HIS FIRST VIRTUAL FASHION COMPETITION AT VDJ

For the first time in the history of the event, the Vodacom Durban July went digital in an effort to observe to social distancing guidelines and help curb the spread of COVID-19.

The event took place on Saturday 25 July 2020 as a broadcast-only event, live on SuperSport 4 and SuperSport 10. This year, celebrities and fashionistas took on the 2020 theme, ‘Butterflies’ and shared their #VDJ2020 looks on social media.
