DUT TO HONOUR PIONEERS IN VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS WITH HONORARY DOCTORATES
The Durban University of Technology (DUT) will confer honorary Doctor of Philosophy Degrees in Visual and Performing Arts to four distinguished and esteemed individuals in its upcoming Spring Graduation ceremony on 07 September 2018 at the Fred Crookes Sports Centre, Steve Biko Campus in Durban.
Multi-award winning author Professor Zakes Mda says it is important for people to be the custodians of their own heritage, in order for its true meaning to be preserved. “It is discouraging that the bulk of our heritage is archived in the US and Europe.
When people own their own heritage government will not be able to sell it to corporates,” said Prof Mda.
PROF BUX APPOINTED AS CHAIR OF BRICS-NETWORK UNIVERSITY SPECIALIST GROUP
The Durban University of Technology’s Institute for Water and Wastewater Technology (IWWT), Director, Professor Faizal Bux says his appointment as the Chairperson of the BRICS Network University International Thematic Group on Water Resource and Pollution Treatment will position DUT at an international level.
“Serving as the Chair of the ITG will certainly have benefits which include profiling the Institute and the University at the international level.
PROF GENGAN TALKS ON ‘GREEN CHEMISTRY’ AT HIS INAUGURAL LECTURE
“One has to discover creative ways of finding alternative routes and processes which are eco-friendly and green alternatives to conventional chemistry,” said an elated Professor Robert Gengan, who was given full professorship at an official ceremony where he also delivered his inaugural lecture at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) Mansfield Hall, last Friday, 24 August 2018.
DUT ARCHITECTURE STUDENT WINS ANNUAL SHARON WILSON AWARD
DUT hosted an annual luncheon to celebrate the awarding of the 29th Sharon Wilson Award for the Top Annual English and Communication Student, in which Adhikwar Singh, a second-year DUT Architecture student, was announced as the winner for 2018.
Singh, who had obtained 78 % in the subject English and Communication, said he is also surprised by his achievement.
MIDLANDS ENTREPRENEURSHIP CENTRE AIMS TO PROMOTE ACTION LEARNING
The Durban University of Technology (DUT) Midlands Entrepreneurship Centre and Student Desk in partnership with the Department of Higher Education and Training are currently hosting its 2018 edition of the Student Entrepreneurship Week (#SEW2018) at DUT’s Midlands Campuses.
The ‘first of its kind event’ is drawing established and budding DUT student entrepreneurs from the Midlands Campuses to the Student Entrepreneurship Week (#SEW2018), to showcase their ideas and promote their businesses.
