4IR TO BE TACKLED AT 6TH DUT ARTS AND DESIGN DIGITAL FESTIVAL
It’s all systems go for this year’s sixth edition of the Durban University of Technology’s Arts and Digital Festival (#DUTDigifest) which takes place from 13 to 14 September 2019, at City and Ritson campuses. Hosted by the Faculty of Arts and Design under the theme, Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR), the two-day festival features a series of workshops, presentations, discussions, exhibitions, installations, live art works and performances. “This year’s festival will focus on workshop activities for students, an animation workshop facilitated by TriggerFish Animation Studio and a coding workshop facilitated by DUT student, Gomolemo Mohapi,” said the festival manager, Magdalene Reddy.
DUT DRAMA STUDENTS SHINE AT THE 11TH CHINA INTERNATIONAL FOLK ARTS FESTIVAL
The Durban University of Technology’s (DUT’s) students from the Drama and Production Studies Programme, were invited for the first time to participate in the 11th China International Folk Arts Festival, at Hohhot, Inner Mongolia autonomous region, from 23 to 29 August 2019. Under the recommendation of the DUT Confucius Institute (CI), 18 students and two staff members represented DUT, showcasing traditional Zulu dances to the Chinese audience, who were deeply impressed by the amalgamation of the various cultures.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research Innovation and Engagement, Professor Sibusiso Moyo in partnership with Iqraa Trust, Young Leaders Academy, held its Second Certification Ceremony: Work Readiness Training, at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) Hotel School, Ritson Campus, on Monday, 09 September 2019.
The event was well-attended by DUT staff, students, external stakeholders and sponsors. To date, there are 71 DUT students who have already completed the programme, 35 are Chiropractic students and a further 36 students received their certificates on Monday.
Thamsanqa Memela was officially sworn in as the new Student Representative Council (SRC) president at the 2019/2020 Student Representative Council (SRC) Inauguration Ceremony, on Friday, 6 September at the Fred Crookes Sport Centre, Steve Biko Campus.
In attendance were Professor Thandwa Mthembu (Vice-Chancellor and Principal), Professor Sibusiso Moyo (DVC: Research, Innovation and Engagement), Dr Isaac Machi (Deputy Vice – Chancellor: People and Operations), Professor Suren Singh (Executive Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences)
MALAYSIAN STUDENTS IMPRESSED BY DUT ON THEIR VISIT
The Durban University of Technology’s (DUT’s) International Education and Partnerships Directorate hosted a delegation of 26 students from the University of Putra Malaysia (UPM) last Thursday, 29 August 2019 at the Hotel School, Ritson Campus.
UPM is recognised as one of Malaysia’s leading research universities. It was founded in 1931 as the School of Agriculture, the University today combines impressive modern facilities and a dynamic approach to teaching and research with its proud heritage of quality services and achievements.
