The Spring graduation at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) began this morning, 06 September 2018 at the DUT Fred Crookes Sports Centre in Durban, with the Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment opening this graduation season.
With whistles, cheers and ululations all-round, over 280 students from the Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment walked on stage to be conferred with their qualifications.
DEPUTY PRINCIPAL’S PHD SEEKS TO COMBAT SCHOOL VIOLENCE
Witnessing the escalating levels of violence in high schools, especially violence that is related to drug and alcohol abuse, prompted Dr Zithobile Mkhize-Ngidi to pursue her PhD in Public Administration (Peace Studies) in the Faculty of Management Sciences at the Durban University of Technology (DUT).
Her research topic was, “Reducing School Violence: A Peace Education Project Amongst Stakeholders in Umlazi”.
Gaining experience in the field of Chemical Engineering has already paved the way for the very enthusiastic Brendan Pillay, to be the best that he can be.
The enterprising young man graduated with Cum Laude and the Dean’s Merit award, obtaining his Degree of Bachelor of Technology: Electrical Engineering, today during the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment’s second graduation session this Spring.

FERGUSON’S DOUBLE ACCOLADES ALL THANKS TO HIS FAMILY
The Durban University of Technology’s (DUT’s) Justin Ferguson graduated with Cum Laude and a Dean’s Merit Award in Degree of Bachelor of Technology: Civil Engineering, during the morning graduation session at the Fred Crookes Sports Centre, Steve Biko Campus, Durban.
When asked about how he felt having obtained such exemplary academic achievements, he said he could not contain his excitement. “Overjoyed! I worked really hard during my studies, but I didn’t know that I would achieve such accolades.
DR MOHALE TO DELIVER THE ANNUAL STEVE BIKO MEMORIAL LECTURE
The Durban University of Technology (DUT) will host the annual Steve Biko Memorial Lecture on Wednesday,12 September 2018 at the DUT Hotel School, Ritson Campus in Durban.
The memorial lecture entitled, ‘From Biko’s Consciousness to the Crisis of Youth Conscious Unconsciousness’ will be delivered by Dr David Mohale, who is the Director: Special Projects in the Office of the Vice-Chancellor at DUT.
