Hertfordshire Compact would like your views
The Hertfordshire Compact is a written understanding between the voluntary and community sector (VCS) and statutory sectors. It's about how they will co-operate and continue to develop positive working relationships for the benefit of Hertfordshire’s communities.
This year a new Compact Forum met for the first time in June. The Forum is open to everyone and will meet twice a year.
We encourage all eligible organisations to ‘sign up’ to the Compact to show commitment to partnership working between the VCS and the statutory sector.
The information you provide in this survey will be important in helping us evaluate the effectiveness of the Hertfordshire Compact.
Celebrate juicy deliciousness at this year’s Apple Day! As we’re saying goodbye to those hot summer days, it’s the time of the year to indulge in our favourite autumn fruit – apples! To celebrate all things apple, Herts & Middlesex Wildlife Trust once again hosts our annual Apple Day on 7th October at Tewin Orchard. Tewin Orchard is a traditional village orchard near Hertford, a surviving example of the many orchards that Hertfordshire used to be famed for. As well as offering a range of local fruit varieties, the orchard is also home to many birds and other wildlife.
Join us at Tewin cricket pitch between 12pm – 4.30pm for a fun-filled autumn afternoon for the whole family with children's activities, guided walks of the orchard and traditional craft demonstrations.
Apple Day is celebrated across the UK in October as a celebration of orchards but also a demonstration of the variety we are in danger of losing, not simply in apples, but in the richness and diversity of landscape, ecology and culture.

HCF and would greatly value your input and will also share the results with you.
The survey will be open until Wednesday 31st October.

Big Lottery Fund Changes Name and Rebrands
The Big Lottery Fund, the UK’s largest funder of charities, will change its name in the new year to the National Lottery Community Fund. The fund distributes 40 per cent of the good cause money raised by the National Lottery, which last year involved giving £508.5m to 11,000 projects. However its funding has fallen in the last two years, prompting it to cut £130m from future budgets.

Nationwide Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme – Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport
The Nationwide Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme (GBVS), announced on 15 March 2018, will provide vouchers worth up to £3000 for a small or medium sized business or £500 to residents to help with the costs of connecting to full fibre broadband.
The scheme is part of a wider government plan to get more homes and businesses connected to full fibre broadband. It builds on the £200 million Local Full Fibre Networks programme which gives funding to local areas to boost full fibre delivery and on trial voucher schemes operated in four parts of the country.
We hesitate to mention that word beginning with C and ending with S but, as last year, we are offering to feature your Seasonal Events in either our November or December Issues depending on the date. So get it in early and it's first come first served.
