MISSION UPDATE

Spring brings new beginnings but for us at 1 FUR 1 Foundation, it starts with mixed emotions. We're very excited to introduce a new program this year but disappointed at last year's limited impact. (Click here for the final 2020 annual report). Most importantly, 1 FUR 1 was able to provide the promised financial, strategic and logistical support to all program partners, no matter their performance or operational status during the pandemic. Each year, we identify the level of support for each program based on a number of annual objectives. These objectives are customized to each program partner which guide our plans of action and serve as a performance benchmark. Donations from the public are the only source of revenue for us and directly impact our ability to do what we do best. For only $27/mo (the average cost of one session) will help us continue to deliver help and support to our life changing programs. PROGRAM NEWS

ANIMAL ASSISTED ACTIVITY

Our animal assisted activity programs (AAA) gain a new partner this month - Timberknolls Spirit Cove featuring Newfie Therapy. Just this past month, these gentle giants delivered 5 sessions to first responders and medical staff and 20 virtual sessions impacting the lives of 352 people in Tennessee, South and North Carolina. Plus, the therapy mini horses in the Florida panhandle visited 12 veterans and elderly with disabilities for the first time since April of last year. Unfortunately, all therapy dogs who visit disabled students around St. Louis metro area are still patiently waiting for schools to get back in session.

ANIMAL ASSISTED THERAPY

The animal assisted therapy programs (AAT) have been able to work at reduce capacity and still able to reach 54 children with disabilities, last month. The supportive canine advocates in Michigan worked at 33 sessions with child victims of crime who needed a carrying paw to help them through the judicial process; this includes crime victims interview, meetings and community contacts. Plus, healing hooves and other farm animals near San Diego had 4 outdoor in-person sessions and 1 virtual story time which helped children with autism learn about mini horses, grow their social skills and experience emotional connections with staff and mini horses.

THE BIRTHDAY MONTH

March is a HUGE month at 1fur1 - we have a lot of March babies around here. 1 FUR 1 was incorporated back on March 14th, 2016. More importantly, let's celebrate the people and animals that make 1 FUR 1 Foundation one of a kind. Let's raise a paw for these happy birthday animals; Michelle (1fur1 founder) and Willow, Melissa (hearts and hooves founder) and Tori, the mini horse and Piper the mini pig. From the the court dogs team, Mr. Weeber, Reagan, Joey and Daphne are celebrating along side Wynona and Clark from therapy dogs who are patiently waiting to go back to visiting schools. Let's raise a paw for them...
