MISSION UPDATE

At, 1 FUR 1 Foundation we planned for all animal assisted therapy and activity programs to be back working at 100% by June of 2021. But we now know, that won’t be the case as different parts of the country try to navigate new surge of COVID cases. Our animal assisted activity programs in the Midwest won’t return until fall but programs located in the Southern part of the U.S.A. (CA, FL, TN, SC and NC) have started to visit with seniors living in long term facilities and medical staff in select hospitals. Our animal assisted therapy programs are essential and remain operational at reduce capacity so children with Autism and first responders/medical staff continue to receive free sessions. 1 FUR 1 continues to provide free online animal related engagements to anyone in need. If you or someone you know is struggling and needs a virtual visits from a furry friend, please let us know.

ANIMAL ASSISTED ACTIVITY

1 FUR 1 animal assisted activity program (AAA) in the Florida panhandle was allowed to visit with 45 military veterans and disabled seniors in person. Brodie, one of the certified mini horses was excited to bring joy to two long term care facility residents who have been on lock down since last year. Our newest partner, Timberknolls Spirit Cove servicing Tennessee, South and North Carolina had a huge impact with the loving Newfie therapy dogs who helped 750 medical staff and first responders deal with the trauma they have and continue to experience at work during this pandemic. Unfortunately, out third program with therapy dogs who visit disabled students in Illinois and St. Louis metro are still patiently waiting for schools to get back in session.

ANIMAL ASSISTED THERAPY

In San Diego County, California, 1 FUR 1's animal assisted therapy program (AAT) performed 3 AAT (in-person) sessions and 1 virtual session which impacted the lives of 21 children with autism learn, grow and experience emotional connections with various ranch animals. On the other side of the country, in Michigan the new Oakland County's prosecutor, Karen McDonald, made good on a campaign promise to partner with CAP & 1 FUR 1 to help youngsters and at-risk adults testify against sexual assault and other abuse.“I want children (and vulnerable adults) who are victims of crime and have to testify to feel safe and the least traumatized as they can possibly be. Dogs can reduce that trauma in them.” (read more). Just last month, these specially trained canine advocates supported 63 victims go through the judicial process.
