The rhythmic, undulating movement and poetic configuration of line, form and colour of the Australian landscape intrigues me.  Abstract Expressionism / Action Painting is at the heart of such energetic paintings and much like the landscape itself,  the work is in constant visual flux through being shaped and re-shaped by the forces of Nature where I ‘the artist’ play a part...

Private Garden 2018

Exhibited in ‘Bonanza’ CSA at the Yarra Sculpture Gallery, October 2018

Consists of five stoneware ceramic flowers (wheel thrown & manipulated) which rest upon an assortment of found and inherited timber pedestals that act as stem-like structures of various heights.  Philosophically the work acknowledges that one form rests upon the foundation of another.  A cluster of flower-like sculptures, together inspiring a garden of form upon form, life upon life – bring together the hand-made and the ready-made, the old and new, the past and the present.  The base of the ceramic components were thrown on the potter’s wheel.  By gently pushing and pulling at the wet clay at the rim, curvaceous impressions inspire a visual momentum, movement, ‘life’.  From the raw materials came a soulful expression – myself as object.  Now fired and matured I observe my position paused within art, delicately perched ‘in bloom’ upon shaky foundations.  Vulnerable, fragile, beautiful… impermanent as a wild flower in nature.

Is an exciting and inspirational event where ‘14’ very passionate artists in West Gippsland open their studio doors to the public on Saturday 24th & Sunday 25th of November - a great opportunity to come and visit us at Pilgrim Creek Studios in Crossover, just an hour East of EastLink!
