masterplan update
Brighton Campus 5-year Master Plan: Stage 1
The final drawings and documentation required by Bayside Council are approved and the construction of the new Brighton Campus fence is scheduled for the upcoming summer break.    A traditional brick pillar fence across the Hawthorn Road frontage will unify the school and provide excellent security with the separation of pedestrian and vehicle traffic.  There will be a service entry at the southern boundary, a central pedestrian entry gate with feature ironwork and vehicle entry to the carpark at the north boundary.
The carpark, to be located on the property at 739 Hawthorn Road, will be constructed in early 2020.

Brighton Campus 5-year Master Plan: Stage 2
The new IB Building is a wonderful addition to our School.  It not only buzzes with our Senior School students & staff but has hosted the Alumni Reunion, Parent Information Evenings, Staff workshops and the recent Parents Association Trivia Night.  With the final internal and external defects now completed, the spaces and functionality of the building is being enjoyed by the entire community.
During the June/July holidays the external landscaping works including external stair access, walking paths and decking were completed. These works connect the Senior School buildings and create designated areas within the grounds.
Over the summer break a major maintenance project at the Brighton Campus will be the installation of a security system to the IB Building and upgrading the security to existing buildings.  The ground water issue will be resolved allowing for additional paths, decking and landscaping to the Senior School grounds.
Brighton Campus 5-year Master Plan: Stage 3
The third stage will be the addition of new building works.  The Building & Grounds Committee is currently working on the scope and design of new building works with the intention to apply for funding from the Victorian School Building Authority Non-Government Schools Capital Fund. This initiative was announced by the Victorian State Government earlier this year.
This is a very exciting opportunity for the School and more information will be released to the community as this phase unfolds.
foundation update
In March the inaugural Alumni Reunion was held in the IB Building at the Brighton Campus. What a wonderful night with eight-seven past students, parents and staff attending.  They reconnected with current staff and old friends, viewed the School memorabilia which included many old photos and told wonderful stories about Melbourne Montessori School.
Our founding families and two ‘Class of 1974 students’ from the Melbourne Montessori Children’s Centre, held in the hall at the Brighton Campus, marvelled at the view from the IB Building and remembered the Church tennis courts that were well played back in the ‘old days’.
“It was really lovely to cross paths again with some people who I hadn’t seen for many, many years.
In fact, I even ran into one of my brother’s school friends whom I hadn’t seen for a long time.” Maddie
Following the success of the evening, and with the intention to hold this event annually, the date for the second Alumni Reunion to be held at the Caulfield Campus has been confirmed.  Pop the 5th March 2020 in your diary and start to spread the word.  If you would like more information about this event or register for an invitation please email

The first Annual Giving Appeal was held in June with the Melbourne Montessori School community generously donating $2,924 to the Foundation.  The goal to quadruple the annual Foundation grant to $2,000 this year was achieved and these funds will contribute to the enhancement of our learning spaces and building our library resources.  A heartfelt thank you to those who supported this appeal.
The MMS Foundation would like to invite community members to indicate their interest in a position on the MMS Foundation Board in 2020.   The Board meetings are held quarterly and provide an opportunity for community members to give their time to support the School and the philanthropic work of the MMS Foundation.  For more information please contact
