Re-Grading & Fixture Timelines
Re-grading Requests
If your club has any requests for re-grading these must be submitted via the online form no later than 9am on Sunday. The league will then take into account any results from round 4 before making any decisions.
If you have any teams you would like to stay in a certain grade (who you think may otherwise be re-graded) please submit this via the form also.

Please note, decisions on any re-grades will be based on league assessments and not solely on requests from clubs.
It is critically important that all results are entered ASAP after games this week to avoid delays with re-gradings.
Fixture Timelines
We are hoping to have round 5 fixtures available in draft format some time on Tuesday next week. Clubs will then have a very small window to provide any feedback before they are posted online around 12pm on Wednesday. This is the ideal scenario and will be dependent on a number of factors - you will be kept up to date if anything changes.
All this is dependent on behaviour issues over the weekend so let’s hope for a good round!
Once round 5 fixtures have been published we will work as quickly as possible through to draft remaining rounds.

Water Carriers - Clarification
Due to some unclear wording within Team Managers' Handbook, we have received a number of queries regarding which age groups can have Water Carriers and how many.

To confirm,

  • Water Carriers are not permitted in Modified Rules (including U12 Girls) matches. If teams have someone that would like to have the bib on to hand out water during breaks that is fine but not necessary.
  • Under 11 & Under 12 competitions (excluding U12 girls) may have one Water Carrier per team.
  • Under 13+ competitions may have up to two Water Carriers per team.U1

Apologies for any confusion caused.

Attempted Fraud
The SMJFL has recently received a report from a club outlining an email that was received:

Hi (Club Treasurer),
Let me know if your available, I need you to initiate a payment of $3,850  to a vendor urgently confirm if you are available so i forward you the vendors bank details.
Thanks,
(Club President Name)

The email, using names of actual club officials (perhaps obtained from websites), appears to be sent from the President's email address the reply email address is different). Please ensure you are vigilant of this scam.

Meet the Umpires - Q&A Session not to be missed!
The SMJFL ran the first "Meet the Umpires" Q&A night last week, and had a small but enthusiastic bunch of coaches and team managers, who found the session very worthwhile. We have 2 further sessions of what is designed to be a low-key, fairly relaxed hour with 2-way communication between team officials and umpires.
Next session:
When: 6.30pm-7.30pm, Monday 15 May
Where: Port Melbourne Colts JFC clubrooms - J.L Murphy Reserve on Williamstown Rd, Port Melbourne . Easy to access for those who work in the city!
Please RSVP for this event to give us an idea on numbers. This event is only for coaches and team managers, please forward them the details.
Final Session:
Monday 19th May at Koornang Park (Carnegie)

Coaches' Pre-Season Mixer - Follow up (Reminder)
As was communicated last week, there are a number of Coaches (or another team representative) who have not attended the Pre-Season Mixer, or completed the supplementary quiz. You can check who has attended or completed the quiz here (last updated Tuesday 9 May 12.30pm). This list will be updated on Thursday on Secretaries' Corner. Friday 12 May is the cuttoff date for all supplementary quizzes to be completed, and fines be reduced.
Please circulate to all coaches missing from the list - they will need to read the Presentation and do the quiz
Umpiring Communications (Reminder)
We would like to remind all club officials that weekly umpire appointments are published on the website by midday Saturday every week under Umpires > Appointments. This can be used as a guide as to which games may need you to provide club umpires. With Mothers Day coming up we ask for your understanding if we do not achieve full appointments this round. You will only be individually notified of having no umpires appointed if the umpires on this list pull out.

The other item which may be of interest is our regular Umpiring newsletters. You can either request to be put on our mailing list, or view umpires on the following links: CLUB UMPIRE NEWSLETTERS (scroll to bottom of screen) SMJFL UMPIRE NEWSLETTERS. Several Secretaries have found the information in these communications quite useful.
