February Update

As we prepare for events in the spring, there are plenty of tasks to be completed at the volunteer workday on 18th February. Drainage off the BFoE building still needs to be fixed to the back wall, seating and social areas need a reshuffle and we still hope to re-make the shelter. We also have tree planting this month. We will be planting around half a dozen each of blackthorns and hazel to thicken up a hedge area either side of the metal fence. This should serve to improve bird habitat, screen of the pond, clean the air by the car park a little and possibly provide us with nuts and sloe berries some time in the future. We also have a couple of grapes, which didn’t fancy my allotment much, to plant in the perennial raised beds and hopefully climb all over the back wall.

Upcoming events:

February 18th: Volunteer workday - 12 - 4pm

February 26th: Evolution of Conciousness talk @ Three three's cafe, Martineau Place - 2 - 4pm

If you wish to hear more about the kind of philosophy we have for Digbeth Community Garden, there is a speaking event at the 3 three’s cafe in Martineau place in Birmingham city centre on the 26th of February. It runs from 2pm until 4 and two of the speakers are Felipe Molina of Food Forest Brum, who will be talking about perennial food systems in the urban setting and Andrew Walton of Bioregion Birmingham, talking about how a bioregional economy could look.
