Happy Healthy Memorial day

I trust each of you will have a Happy Healthy Memorial Day.  Here are a few tips:

Happiness is within our reach, but it is not attained by sheer will-power, it is earned by good-behavior.  The Fact is, being happy is the result of being good.  We will go into this in another issue, but for now, here are several traits of happy people that we talked about in our October 27, 2014 newsletter. 
  • Treat everyone with kindness. 
  • Express gratitude for what they already have.
  • Don’t sweat the small stuff. 
  • Speak well of others. 
  • Never make excuses. 
  • Get absorbed in the present. 
  • Never seek approval from others. 
  • Take the time to listen. 
  • Nurture social relationships. 
  • Eat well & Exercise. 
  • Live minimally - don't clutter with stuff. 
  • Establish personal control. 
  • Accept what cannot be changed. 
Being healthy has a big influence on our happiness, so during this holiday season here's some precautions to a healthy holiday.

Bug Defense - A simple alternative to chemical bug repellant is essential oils.  Some that are quite effective are:  
  • Mosquitos – citronella, lemon eucalyptus, peppermint, lemon, eucalyptus, catnip, basil, clove, thyme, lemongrass, geranium, lavender
  • Fleas – cedarwood, citronella, eucalyptus, tea tree oil, lemongrass, lavender, orange, pine,
  • Ticks – rose geranium, juniper, rosewood, thyme, grapefruit, oregano
Exercise -  We all know the benets of exercise, so plan to get some this holiday.

Tasty Food -  Food can be Tasty and Healthy, and there are better choices out there.  Some of the worst common "foods" are:
  • Hotdogs and processed meats - because of the nitrates and added chemicals.
  • Potato chips and french fries -  because they are fried and may contain large amounts of acrylamides,  a deadly carcinogen. 
  • Artificial Sweenteners  - these chemicals can be worse than sugar and are said to even cause weight gain.
  • Pastries, cookies, and cakes  - these are extremely unhealthy, especially those that are made from a package.  For the most part, there is nothing in them that is healthy, and they are literally some of the worst things you can eat.
We trust you will have a happy and healthy Memorial Day, and let us Thank God for the freedoms we still have in our nation, and not forget those who sacrificed for our benefit.
