Do pool fences need a consent? They sure do!

If you're wanting to build, change or do additional work to a pool fence, you will need to get a building consent before you start. This is due to a national change in legislation known as the NZ Building Amendment Act 2016. We're here to help, so make sure to apply for your consent early or come in and talk to our Building Technical Officer if you have any questions.

New one-stop shop for the Building Code

Building CodeHub is an online search tool (developed by Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment) to help building practitioners find resources that enable them to design and construct buildings in line with the Building Code. The hub includes a number of useful documents. Check it out!

Plumbing and drainage work on the Council network

Hey plumbers and drain layers, we’ve made a change to the process for getting plumbing and drainage work done on our pipe network. If you’re out on a job and notice or suspect work needs to be done on our pipe network, then you need to give us a call (07 838 6699) so we can arrange for it to be fixed rather than doing it yourself. To speed the process up, and if it’s safe to do so, please dig up the inspection point. We’ll send one of our staff to have a look then decide the best way to fix the issue and close the inspection point. This change will ensure costs are incurred and approved by the appropriate owners.

If you have any questions, you can talk to our City Waters Operations Reticulation Team, ph 07 838 6433 or email OpsReticTeam@hcc.govt.nz
