Pastoral Note

Our beloved parishioner Don Plunkett died on Wednesday night after his long battle with brain cancer. Please keep beloved family in your prayers.

A celebration of Don’s life will be held at Holy Innocents’ Episcopal Church on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at 11am. A reception will follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Innocents’ Church Music Ministry, 805 Mount Vernon Highway, Atlanta, GA 30327; or the Johnson Hagood Stadium Enhancement Fund c/o The Citadel Foundation, 171 Moultrie Street, Charleston, SC 29409-6230.

Don was grateful to all the caregivers who helped him in his fight with cancer. To them and everyone, he would say, “Remember me with smiles and laughter. That’s the way I’ll remember you.” Read his obituary here.

Rest eternal grant to him, O Lord;
And let light perpetual shine upon him.
May his soul, and the souls of all the departed,
through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

A Note from Bill
     On Sunday we will celebrate the Feast of the Holy Innocents. The day set aside for this moment in the church calendar is December 28. If we chose to celebrate that three days after Christmas, we would easily have one of the smallest services of the year.  Instead, we chose to move our day to celebrate when we can all be together. And that is the goal. We want everyone to worship together. We want everyone to come and be part of the Annual Meeting. We want everyone to be together as we celebrate being the beloved people of God.

      We have so very much to celebrate. We just celebrated our sesquicentennial. We welcomed home preachers from our past and present. We had one amazing concert after another on campus and at Carnegie Hall and Spelman College. We raised over $1.87 million to retire the mortgage on our property. We have had a successful pledge campaign. We are finishing up a half dozen projects that have been lingering for decades. Even more, we will celebrate folks who have been helping and volunteering to make this place run for years. Come and join us as we celebrate our church, as we grow in community, and as we thrive as the people of God!

The Rev. Dr. Bill Murray

Better Together
The Rector’s Forum in Inglett Hall resumes Feb. 5
Sundays at 9:00 AM

The Episcopal Church has entered into “Full Communion” with six denominations and is talking with several more. The idea is that clergy, bishops, and people can move interchangeably between these denominations. As the Rev. Stewart Lucas discovered in Baltimore, Lutherans and Episcopalians have much more in common than you might think.
