WAvNA Resolutions
WAvNA Opposes Elimination of Hotel Parking for Citizen M Hotel
This proposal would eliminate all parking requirements for Citizen M Hotel, it seems, to address a parking shortfall for the hotel caused by the introduction of the 179-seat rooftop cinema, 85-seat rooftop restaurant, and 31-seat rooftop bar.
WAvNA opposes this as it may incentivize more hotel development on this block where 5 hotels already exist. Second, the ordinance is initiated by Citizen Hotel which seems like it should be a private application, not commission sponsored. Therefore, WAvNA board opposes the parking elimination and the proposal should only move forward as a private application by the developer.
WAvNA Opposes Ordinance to Convert Home to Short Term Rental, 1320 Flamingo Way
WAvNA Opposes an ordinance that would change the start date of the Bed & Breakfast prohibition ordinance causing 1320 Flamingo Way (and maybe others) to convert a home into short-term rentals.
The intent of the original bed & breakfast law, now repealed, was to give an existing single-family homeowner the opportunity to earn extra income so they could remain in their home. The current owner never lived in the home and upon purchase immediately built an addition with 7 bedroom/7 bath.
What we really need is more residential housing but that will not happen if housing is constantly taken off the market and turned into transient.
Please, No More Marijuana Dispensaries
It has been brought to our attention that yet another Marijuana Dispensary is searching for a location on Alton Road. In our neighborhood there are already 3 marijuana dispensaries, 2 marijuana hookah stores, and 1 marijuana doctor advertising with a giant pot leaf in his front window.
We reiterate that there is a separation law for marijuana dispensaries and we wish to have that law obeyed to:
- Not decrease the distance separation
- Not change any laws that would allow more marijuana dispensaries on Alton Road or the West Avenue neighborhood.
