Hello + Darwin Equality Rally

This is the first newsletter from OUT NT.

Hello! This week has been quite something. Over forty people, and their supporters in spirit, gathered at the NT Parliament for rally for Equality. Despite the thunder and lightning, the community came together and spoke out against the discrimination and ongoing homophobia that is present in the NT. Also launched at this rally was the website and the community survey. Check out the photos from the rally, and tell your friends about all that is happening:

Rainbow Territory

Launch of OUT NT website

The OUT NT website is a Rainbow Territory initiative to improve community connection and visibility for the NT LGBTQI community. Through the website you can
view current events in the NT, report homophobia, find out about community resources, and keep up to date about Rainbow Territory's activities.

The best way to understand what's on there is to visit it

The marketing budget for the website is currently less than zero, so your help in promoting it amongst your networks is invaluable.

Some words from a long term Territorian: "The Out NT website is a big occasion for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer Territorians. It’s a wonderful resource for all of us"

Community Survey

The purpose of the community survey is to learn more about the issues facing lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer Territorians.

This survey needs input from the community, and your help to get the word out about the survey.

This survey is being run by Rainbow Territory. Please share this with your friends and networks.

Upcoming Events

So there are about eight things coming up (that we know of). Shows, fundraisers, books, ladies' night, brunches, drinks. Check out the events page for full information

Ever dreamed of starting a KD Lang appreciation society, or gay bush walkers' club (pun intended), or queer movie club? You can submit your own event if you fancy being the organiser. Community events will be promoted through this newsletter

Many readers remember the book Stone Butch Blues. This article recounts some of the exerts from Stone Butch.

From the Law Report (Radio National, ABC). Contributions from Proposition 8 film maker (campaign to overturn marriage ban in California), as well as prominent Australian legals: The delicate dance of documentary film makers and lawyers is explored in <>.

At a glance:

Northern Territory News, Thursday, 27 November 2014, p. 14:

Push for gay marriage
CANBERRA: Same sex marriage is vital for three reasons: liberty, conscience and state power.

That’s the argument of Liberal Democrat David Leyonhjelm, who yesterday introduced a private senator’s bill to allow same-sex marriage.

The bill would allow any Australian to marry regardless of ‘sex, sexual orientation and gender identity’.

However, it also gives non-government religious and civil celebrants the right to refuse to marry same-sex couples.

The libertarian doesn’t believe government should interfere in individual choices.
