Clayton Valley Charter High School News
September 8-13, 2020

Dear CVCHS Families,

Can you believe we're almost through the first month of the school year? As always, thank you to all of you for continuing to maintain great participation from students and thank you to those of you who took our week two survey. We use your feedback to adjust our program and we will be asking for quick input like last week's survey frequently. In addition, we look forward to the day when we can welcome everyone back for in-person instruction and we are closely watching the state's new color-coded system that guides what can and cannot be open in a county (As of today, Contra Costa County is still in purple, the most restrictive color).

Speaking of in-person, we were excited to host our Honor Roll ceremony last Friday, September 4th. It was great to have over 225 students and families back on campus, if even for a brief moment and one at a time. Congratulations to the honorees and their families on their achievements. We will have photos from the event posted to our Facebook page later this week. If you were not able to make the event or if you earned an honorable mention for a GPA of 3.0-3.49, your certificates and other hardware will be mailed this week.

As we finish our first month of 2020-21, here are a couple of reminders:

  • Each morning, please make sure students log into Google. Then, students log into Schoology. Once in Schoology, please log into the individual class for each period. Teachers will post links to Zoom and all other information on their Schoology page.
  • Now is your opportunity to give your input on the CVCHS 2020-21 LCAP. There will be a public hearing at the Governing Board meeting tomorrow, Wednesday, September 9th. In addition to this week's meeting, students will be invited to give feedback on September 15th before classes begin. Families will have opportunities at the PFC meeting on September 15th and at our September 17th Back to School Night at 5 PM. (There will be presentations available in both English and Spanish on the 17th.)
  • Mark your calendars for Back to School Night on Thursday, September 17th from 5:45-7:30 PM. This will be a virtual event hosted by your student's teachers. A detailed schedule will be sent home soon.
  • Last but not least, there are some exciting updates to CVCHS' food service program starting this week. Please see below for more details and find out how to get free meals from CVCHS every day for all of your children.

Thank you again for your continued support. Please email us with any questions or other ways that we may be of assistance.

Sincerely,

Jeff Anderson
Principal

Save the Date for BTSN!

Back to School Night will be held on Thursday, September 17th from 5:45 - 7:30 PM.  As in years past, you will have approximately 10 minutes to hear from your students’ teachers regarding the expectations, instructional strategies, and course content that will be covered during the course of the school year. With distance learning still mandated, this will take place on individual Zoom calls hosted by your students’ teachers. A separate schedule will be sent as we get closer to the date.

Fall Credit Recovery 2020

Starting in September, we will be providing online Credit Recovery options through Edgenuity for students in need of credit recovery. There are multiple "tracks" to this credit recovery, all completed online for students:
  • Who earned a 50-69% in a previous semester and are eligible to earn a 10% bump in their grade by completing coursework showing mastery of previously taught materials.
  • Who failed the entire semester by earning <50% in the course.
Fall Credit Recovery Session Only:
  • Last opportunity for students to earn the 5% credit recovery for our Spring Semester Grading Policy for the 2019-2020 school year (to qualify, the student must have earned between a 75-79% or 85-89% spring semester to qualify.)
  • The last opportunity for students to FINISH any incomplete courses they may have started during summer school.
These programs will run simultaneously and are self-paced, though clear deadlines will be given to students enrolled in each program. The majority of the classes will be taken through Edgenuity, a virtual curriculum platform. Students will work independently on their courses but be assigned a case-manager (teacher) who will monitor their progress, grade their assignments, and unlock their exams for them as they progress through the material.

If you believe your student is in need of Credit Recovery because they fit into one of the "tracks" listed above, please fill out this form. The information you submit will be reviewed by your student's counselor, who will determine the courses your student is eligible for. Students will then be enrolled and assigned to a case- manager. While there is no deadline for enrollment in this program, these courses do take time and the sooner the registration process is complete, the sooner students can start on their coursework.

Fall Credit Recovery Courses have a FINAL deadline of December 11th for completion.
