SKIING HISTORY READING LIST

Explore skiing's colorful past on the ISHA website,
plus two free booklets to download below.

ISHA's mission is to preserve skiing history and to increase awareness of the sport's heritage. We hope you'll explore the rich and extensive material on our website — a leading and ever-expanding resource for historians and passionate skiers around the world.

FREE: SKI MUSEUMS OF THE WORLD
Newly updated and expanded by historian E. John B. Allen and partially funded by a grant from the Marc Hodler Foundation, this guide covers more than 160 ski museums and collections in 22 countries. Search the online database here and download a free PDF.

FREE: SKI THE SEVEN CONTINENTS:
Written by ISHA director Charles J. Sanders, this 16-page booklet offers a firsthand and historical look at the small band of skiers who've skied on every continent — and the elite mountaineers who've climbed and skied the Seven Summits. Sanders eloquently frames his story in the context of climate change in a rapidly warming world. Download your free PDF here. (For personal use only; no distribution allowed)

Skiing History: How to Use Our Digital Format

May-June 2021: A Guide for ISHA Members

ISHA members with a username and password can log on anytime to read new and previous issues of Skiing History magazine at our website (skiinghistory.org), where we've created a new easy-to-read format for the online digital edition.

The previous "flipbook" format is still available, but we also offer the full content of the magazine in a web-page format, so you can select a type size you like, and scroll through each article at leisure.

The new version is text-searchable. So when you use the text-search box (in the upper right corner of each page on our website), the search results will include Skiing History articles as well as website-archived articles.

And the new edition may be read in English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Norwegian or Japanese. Just select a language from the drop-down menu at the upper left corner of the page. The languages are generated by Google Translate. This feature will help Skiing History to build new audiences in Europe, South America and East Asia.

Both versions are available only to active members of ISHA. For instructions on setting up your username and password, scroll down to "Make the Most of Your ISHA Membership."

Go here to see the new reader-friendly version of the digital edition.
