Legendary Congresswoman Maxine Waters Backs Herb Wesson for LA County Supervisor
Los Angeles, CA – Today, legendary Democratic Congresswoman Maxine Waters announced her official endorsement of LA City Council President Emeritus Herb Wesson for the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors. Wesson is running to fill the seat of termed-out Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas in the 2nd District, which spans South Los Angeles and the South Bay.

Upon announcing the endorsement, U.S. Congresswoman Maxine Waters wrote:

“I am proud to endorse Herb Wesson. Herb has been a champion for working families by creating jobs, raising the minimum wage, increasing access to healthcare, fighting for social justice, and expanding gang intervention, after school, career education and job training programs. Herb will stand with me to fight Donald Trump’s efforts to hurt our most vulnerable—our children, seniors, women, the poor and communities of color. We need local leaders like Herb to protect the quality of life here in our neighborhoods. Please join me in supporting Herb Wesson for LA County Supervisor.”

In response, Former LA City Council President Herb Wesson released the following statement:

“I am honored to have received the endorsement of Congresswoman Maxine Waters. Throughout her 30+ year career, she has fought for the working people of Los Angeles and has been a fierce advocate for the progressive values we share. Today, she is one of the key leaders defending our community from the bigoted and harmful policies of Donald Trump. Together, I know we will make Los Angeles an even better place to live, work and raise a family.”
During his tenure as Council President, Wesson presided over monumental policy initiatives that have improved the lives of Angelenos. These initiatives — which include raising the minimum wage, expanding protections for working families, and consolidating city elections to increase voter turnout — have not only positively impacted local residents, but in many cases, sparked legislative responses at both the state and national level.

While real progress has been made in the last decade, Herb Wesson knows that there’s still more work to be done. That’s why he’s running for Los Angeles County Supervisor: to empower people and make a difference in the lives of local residents.

Herb Wesson currently lives in Los Angeles and is happily married to Fabian Wesson. They have four sons, Douglas, P.J. Herb III, and Justin Wesson, and four grandchildren.
