BComm Milestone Reunions 2019
A number of BComm (including BComm International) reunions for milestone years will take place throughout 2019 from May onward for the following classes: 1969, 1974, 1979, 1984, 1989, 1994, 1999, 2004, 2009, 2014 & 2018.

The first of these events will be the held for the BComm Class of 1969 who will celebrate the 50th anniversary of their graduation from UCD on Wednesday, 29th May 2019. On this very special occasion a Ulysses Medal, the University's highest honour, will be awarded to Dr. Michael Somers, BComm '69 & former NTMA CEO.

New York Benefit Dinner
Save the date for the 17th annual New York Benefit Dinner which will take place on Wednesday, 16th October 2019. All profits from this event will fund scholarships for North American students, attracting the next generation of business leaders to study at UCD. Read more.

Save the date for the UCD Business School London Dinner which will take place on Thursday, 7th November 2019. The event will be attended by members of the School's Boards along with senior professionals from the business, academic and alumni community. Read more.

UCD Business Alumni Awards Dinner - April 5th 2019
The 28th Annual UCD Business Alumni Awards recently took place on April 5th 2019 at the InterContinental Hotel where this years Student of the Year Winners, Alumni of the Year Winners and Dr Laurence Crowley CBE, the inaugural recipient of our Outstanding Contribution to Business Education Award were all honored. To find out more about this years event, awardees, & sponsors click here.

Singapore & Hong Kong Alumni Events 
UCD Business Alumni & Ambassador Patrick Bourne recently hosted an alumni reception in the Irish Residence, Singapore. Dean of Business Professor Brabazon honoured Dr. Murphy Choy, Director of Operations at SSON Analytics, with the 2019 Singapore Alumnus of the Year Award. The event also featured a talk by Aidan Connolly on his new book. Professor Brabazon and other UCD representatives then travelled to Hong Kong to attend the 2019 graduations where Dallas Cheung was presented with the 2019 Hong Kong Alumnus of the Year Award. SuperQuinn Founder Feargal Quinn Passes Away
The UCD Business Alumni Relations team would like to express their heartfelt sympathies to the family & friends of businessman, former senator & BComm alumnus Feargal Quinn who has sadly passed away following a short illness. He is best known for founding the Superquinn chain which pioneered new levels of customer service and innovation in the Irish retail sector and which he successfully sold to a consortium of investor for €420m in 2005. Mr Quinn was also the 2011 recipient of the UCD Quinn School of Business Alumni of the year award. Read more.
Ireland's Best-Known Civil Servant Gave Government a Business Edge
UCD BComm alumnus Pádraig Ó hUiginn, who has died aged 94, is remembered as Ireland's best-known public servant who throughout the 1980s and 1990s cut a swathe through many sectors of Irish political, economic, cultural and social life. Read more.
Applegreen's Forecourts Foresight
For Chief Operating Officer Joe Barrett, (BComm '87 & MBA '92) it was always a logical decision for Applegreen to be a food company first and a fuel company second. Last month the company said it had hit €2bn in annual sales & now has 11,000 staff. Since going public in 2015, it has more than doubled in size also. Read more.
UCD Alumnus Launches Guide to Mastering Business Skills
UCD Alumnus Patrick Barr (BA 1988, DBS 1989 & MBA 1994) has recently published his book 'The Successful Toolkit'. The primary value proposition of the book is that it provides quick access to thought provoking insightful material that will help the reader make considered decisions and take a prudent course of action when faced with a challenge that may evoke or have evoked an emotional response. Abbey Road Studios Reborn
The legendary Abbey Road complex has undergone a multi-million makeover, the biggest in its 87 year old history. Managing Director Isabel Garvey and UCD BComm '98 alumna says that the new studios & initiatives such as the tech incubator “helps new music tech start-ups using our reputation for audio and technical innovation.” The studio’s guidance has helped 14 businesses that are now collectively worth $150 million. Scholarships Announced for Masters in Marketing & Retail Innovation Programme
Starting in September 2019, the dynamic new Masters will blend marketing expertise and customer-driven retail innovation. Inspired by the creativity, innovation and the relentless pace of change within retailing, the UCD Smurfit School faculty have worked closely with industry leaders to create this important programme. The scholarships will also offer half of the programme’s tuition cost to two qualified applicants. Read more.
Smurfit MBA Students Win IBM Technology Case Competition
A group of five full time MBA students has won the 2019 IBM Technology Case Competition in Georgetown University, Washington DC. The challenge was to provide a solution using IBM tools and present as if they were IBM consultants to an IBM client FEMA. The group won overall first prize and received a cheque for $4,000. In addition to this honour, they are the first non-US group to have their School – UCD Smurfit School - listed on the trophy. Read more.
DatSci & AI Awards Returns For 4th Year
Entry criteria are now live for the DatSci & AI Awards which will be held on 5th September at Croke Park, connecting and celebrating the best in the data science ecosystem across Europe. The National Centre for Applied Data Analytics & AI (CeADAR), based in UCD, have partnered with the Awards since its inception. A scholarship for the MSc in Business Analytics is also open to students. Read more.
