Adverse Weather - Keeping this on.....just in case!
I don't much like the look of the weather forecast at the minute, so I feel it is timely to send out some advice regards procedures in the event of bad weather descending upon us. If bad weather arrives overnight, a decision will be made regards opening very early the next morning and parents/carers will be alerted via text message and the school website. No news is good news - that will mean we are open as usual. It is always our aim to keep the school open and we would only close in an absolute emergency e.g. no power, heating or not enough staff to open the school/keeping everyone safe. I would like to ask you to make your own decision regards travel and only embark on your journey if you deem it safe to do so. Thank you. Fingers crossed for a sunny, mild winter!
We only have a small amount of St Oswalds Hospice's beanies left in school, so if you would like to buy one, please send in £2 per beanie into school with your child. The last chance to purchase one will be Monday 18th December at break time. Many thanks.
SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR
Many thanks to all of you who bought books at our half price Scholastic book fair last week. We raised an amazing £578.50! We were able to get books for the value of £57 for our library!
RAINBOWS AND BROWNIES
Is you daughter interested in joining Rainbows and Brownies? If so there are spaces at 3rd Morpeth Brownies and 3rd Morpeth Rainbows. You can register your their daughter at girlguiding.org.uk and select 3rd Morpeth Rainbows or 3rd Morpeth Brownies.
We are still collecting green milk bottle tops which will be sent to the Children's Ward at Newcastle RVI. There is a box in the front foyer. Many thanks.

Friends Of Abbeyfields School News
firstname.lastname@example.org Christmas Busking- Monday 18th December
Our Abbeyfields Musicians will be busking at school pick up on Monday 18th December (weather permitting - it may move to 21st or 22nd if the weather is dreadful!). Please remember to bring some change to throw in their buckets on the day! If your child would like to take part and Mrs Halliford doesn’t already know, please tell her as soon as possible. They will need to leave school to set up in the school grounds at 2.55pm and must be accompanied by a parent or carer. They can play in groups or solo - whatever they prefer. All proceeds will go towards FOAS funds - hopefully for more playground equipment!
Friends of Abbeyfields Family Ceilidh- Saturday 27th January 5.30pm
After the success of the last two ceilidhs, we will be holding a ceilidh evening in January. This should be a really fun evening with live music provided by the Whistling Sheep Ceilidh Band and a pie and peas supper. Please get the date in your diaries and look out for more details of tickets going on sale.
Look out for FOAS volunteers at pick up on the last day of term as we will be handing out Reindeer food as a little Christmas gift! As well as being great nourishment for tired, hungry reindeer, this will also be safe for any garden wildlife who have a sneaky little taste of Rudolph’s snack as it will not contain any glitter.
In case anyone missed this last week… Amazing news! We have hit our fundraising target of £10,000 for the Playground Canopy! As many of you will know, following a survey of staff and parent opinions we have been fundraising for a colourful playground canopy outside the North Hall to allow better use of the school’s outdoor space. And we have now reached our target so the company have been contacted to set the ball rolling with the design and installation process. Watch this space! A HUGE thank you to everyone who has contributed in any way to this amazing achievement!
Thank you for all your ongoing support of FOAS activities. As always, do get in touch if you have any queries or suggestions for FOAS, or if you are able to offer to help with any events- either speak to a committee member or email Beccy Pearson at FriendsofAbbeyfields@yahoo.co.uk
YEAR 4 - News in Brief
Well we're sure you would all agree that Year 4's Christmas performances were an outstanding display of talent. The children worked so hard to learn lines and songs and we are very proud. Thank you once again for supporting us and coming along to see the show. In English, the children have improved their story writing from last week. They used adjectives, adverbs, fronted adverbials, conjunctions and a range of punctuation to do this. We have continued to learn and practise recalling the 6, 7 and 9 times tables during Fast 15 sessions. In Art, the children have created their own Christmas card and calendar which they cannot wait to show you. Next Thursday is our Year 4 Christmas party and we would appreciate a food contribution (please remember no nuts in case of allergies). We are looking forward to having lots of fun and games!
YEAR 3 - News in Brief
Year 3 have had a great week with their Christmas performances and put on three fabulous shows, one for the whole school and two for parents. In the middle of all that they have also been expected to do lots of work! In English they have been using the plans that they created for homework to come up with a story to enter into the Creative Writing Competition called "Toy Stories". It was quite a hard task to come up with a story that was only a 100 words long but they have made a great effort. In maths we have looked at shape, fractions, angles and kept up our practising of the four operations. We have also been trying out some of the Fast Fifteen activities that the children planned for their homework, which has been fun. The children will be bringing a note home about the Christmas party which is next Wednesday afternoon, so please look out for it. The children in 3D were delighted to see Miss Brown back this week in time for all the Christmas fun! Here's to a lovely final week before the holidays.
YEAR 2 - News in Brief
Wow, what an amazing week we have had in Year 2! The children have completely blown us away with their singing, dancing and acting in the performances this week, and looked absolutely amazing. Many thanks for coming along and supporting them and for helping them learn their words and providing such fab outfits to wear - we truly appreciate all of your support. As we look ahead to next week, we have lots more fun in store (Christmas party on Monday PM - please refer to additional information sent home with your child for details). We will also continue to be busy working on the run up to Christmas and appreciate your support in ensuring that your child comes to school refreshed and ready to learn each day - keep the Christmas jumper until Friday please!
YEAR 1 - News in Brief
Wow, what a performance! The children in Year 1 thoroughly enjoyed sharing the story ‘Snowman at Sunset’ with their family and friends this week. We hope you will agree that they did a magnificent job and were ALL amazing. Please look out for a special delivery from the postman in the next few days, he will be bringing important news about the Year 1 party next Tuesday 19th Dec. The children are welcome to wear party clothes and we would appreciate small donations of savoury items such as sausage rolls, sandwiches, crisps etc from the children in 1J, and sweet treats such as cakes, biscuits etc from 1B sent in on the day. Tomorrow will be our last PE session before the holidays, so please ensure your child has their kit in school.
RECEPTION - News in Brief
It has been an exciting time this week. Not only have we performed 'The Tiptoe Nativity' to the whole school, we also performed it to all our families too! I'm sure you agree with the staff that they were amazing - we can't believe they are just 4 and 5 years old. We have also had the opportunity to see the rest of the dress rehearsals so those who have older brothers or sisters could see them perform. Please remember that next Tuesday is our Reception Christmas party. Many thanks for your continued support, the Reception Team.
NURSERY - News in Brief
Nursery is a very busy, festive place this week - it's lovely! Thank you to all of the children who made a Christmas card at home for their nursery friends and posted it in our post box. They look absolutely wonderful displayed in Nursery. The post box will be in the cloakroom for another week. The nursery team were so very very proud of our first Nursery Rhyme Nativity performance on Wednesday. The children looked really great in their costumes and sang beautifully and said their words in huge voices - the story of The First Christmas was very well told and left us all feeling very festive. So well done to Nursery A. We cant wait to be just as proud of our Nursery B children when they perform on Friday - a lovely way to end our week. Only one more week to go. The children will be bringing their Christmas crafts home on Tuesday and Thursday and of course our party is on Wednesday. Nursery is closed to all children during the morning session and all children are welcome from 12.30 - 3.00 in your party clothes. Thank you.
ASAC - News in Brief
We have been kept in by the weather at After School Club this week but that has allowed us to brush up on our table tennis skills and gymnastics shapes as well as having great fun in the soft play and ball pool. Please note that the number to contact if you need to get in touch with After School Club is 01670 500726. Could we ask that when signing out your child that you please put the correct time down on the sign-out sheet. This will ensure that you are only charged the correct amount for your child's' attendance. A reminder also to allow plenty of time for your journey when picking up your child. We understand that life can be busy and traffic, due to weather, can be tricky, but our After School Club staff have their own commitments after the 5.30pm deadline when our club closes, so please make sure you are there before that time. There will be a late collection charge of £10 added to your child's' account for any collection made after 5.30pm.
BSC - News in Brief
The children have had a busy week playing in the soft play, ball pool, skipping ropes, draughts, big vehicles, dressing up outfits, finger knitting, Lego, pirate ships and table football (still no room for the big football due to a tree in the hall!). We had a lovely Christmas story this week - can you child tell you which one it was?
