Adverse Weather - Keeping this on.....just in case!
I don't much like the look of the weather forecast at the minute, so I feel it is timely to send out some advice regards procedures in the event of bad weather descending upon us. If bad weather arrives overnight, a decision will be made regards opening very early the next morning and parents/carers will be alerted via text message and the school website. No news is good news - that will mean we are open as usual. It is always our aim to keep the school open and we would only close in an absolute emergency e.g. no power, heating or not enough staff to open the school/keeping everyone safe. I would like to ask you to make your own decision regards travel and only embark on your journey if you deem it safe to do so. Thank you. Fingers crossed for a sunny, mild winter!
We have raised £518for St Oswald's Hospice from the sale of Christmas beanies. Thank you so much.
RAINBOWS AND BROWNIES
Is you daughter interested in joining Rainbows and Brownies? If so there are spaces at 3rd Morpeth Brownies and 3rd Morpeth Rainbows. You can register your their daughter at girlguiding.org.uk and select 3rd Morpeth Rainbows or 3rd Morpeth Brownies.
We are still collecting green milk bottle tops which will be sent to the Children's Ward at Newcastle RVI. There is a box in the front foyer. Many thanks.
The talented Abbeyfields musicians raised a marvellous £100 during their busking on Monday afternoon! A big thank you to everyone who played and thank you to all the adults who supervised and helped at this event. Thank you also, of course, to everyone who contributed - what a fabulous total!
Stella and Dot Night
Thank you to all who supported the Stella and Dot jewelry evening. £50 was raised for FOAS funds. Particular thanks to Hannah from Stella and Dot who very kindly donated 10% of the proceeds to FOAS.
Friends of Abbeyfields Family Ceilidh - Saturday 27th January 5.30pm
After the success of the last two ceilidhs we will be holding a ceilidh evening in January. This should be a really fun evening with live music provided by the Whistling Sheep Ceilidh band and a pie and peas supper. Please get the date in your diaries and look out for more details of tickets going on sale!
Look out for FOAS volunteers at pick up on the last day of term - we will be handing out Reindeer food as a little Christmas gift! As well as being great nourishment for tired, hungry reindeer this will also be safe for any garden wildlife who have a sneaky little taste of Rudolph’s snack as it will not contain any glitter.
Thank you for all your ongoing support of FOAS activities. As always, do get in touch if you have any queries or suggestions for FOAS, or if you are able to offer to help with any events- either speak to a committee member or email Beccy Pearson at FriendsofAbbeyfields@yahoo.co.uk
YEAR 4 - News in Brief
Well this week the children in Year 4 have been Christmas card designers, cake decorators, stained glass window creators and performers. We hope that you will enjoy the finished products as they arrive home. In English the children wrote their own Christmas acrostic poems. They used a fantastic and varied range of vocabulary to get us in the Christmas spirit. In Maths we have continued the Christmas theme and have tackled mental maths problems and also looked at co-ordinates and shape. We completed our Science topic by investigating conductors and insulators of electricity. By the time you read this we should be all partied out and ready for a restful (!) holiday. Merry Christmas and we look forward to seeing you in the New Year.
YEAR 3 - News in Brief
We have had fun using the 12 Days of Christmas as a focus for our work this week. We have looked at how we could work out the answers to some of the mathematical questions we were asked, such as how many gifts were there altogether - we had to listen very carefully to the song when we started so that we understood what we had to do. We also made up our own version of the song to come up with some weird and wacky gifts our best friends might give to us. We then performed them for the class - some of us were even brave enough to sing! We enjoyed our party on Wednesday afternoon and were great sports playing the games. We are nearly at the end of our first term and so it would be good to have a drawer sort out - please could you send in a named carrier bag so that your child is able to bring home all their bits and pieces? Many thanks and we wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
YEAR 2 - News in Brief
Well done Year 2 children for another super term. You have impressed us all with your resilience to keep trying your best right until the last day. This week the children have continued to work hard in English writing reports using interesting openers, adjectives and some conjunctions. In Maths the children have made progress in addition, subtraction, missing numbers and problem solving. Our party was a fabulous success on Monday and all the children seemed to enjoy themselves. Many thanks for sending in party food. There has been so much food that the children have had an extra little snack of party food every afternoon! The Year 2 Team would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and say a massive thank you for all our gorgeous gifts that the children have brought in for us. You are very kind and thoughtful. We would also like to finally say thank you for all your support this term. Have a rest and enjoy your family time now and be ready for LOADS of fun and learning in January.
YEAR 1 - News in Brief
Wow - what a busy end to the term! The children had a fantastic time at their Christmas party this week and have been working hard to get all of their Christmas crafts ready to send home on Friday. Please send into school a carrier bag with your child in order to take everything home! We will not be giving the children reading books to take home over Christmas - we are sure they will have plenty of other things to do! We will give out new books, homework and spellings at the start of next term. The Year 1 team thank you for your continued support and wish you all a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year!
RECEPTION - News in Brief
The children are very excited about Christmas and have enjoyed the activities and stories to find out more about this celebration. We all had a great time at the Christmas party and all the children joined in well. Their behaviour was excellent and during the games, when anyone was out...they still had a big smile on their faces! A big THANKS from all the staff to everyone for your help and support over this last term. Hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and all the very best for 2018! Best wishes. the Reception team.
NURSERY - News in Brief
We have had the best Christmas week in Nursery to end a fantastic term. We had great fun decorating cup cakes to take home in our Christmas boxes, we also took home our Christmas envelope full of all our Christmas crafts that we have been busy making over the last few weeks. We all looked very lovely in our Christmas party clothes and we had a great time playing games, singing songs and eating delicious party food. And guess what, we had a very special visitor... Santa Claus had heard how good we are and came to see us! He brought us all a present too (kindly donated by the Friends of Abbeyfields). We would like to thank all of you for your kind words, wishes and gifts, all very much appreciated. All that is left to say is we wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from the Nursery Team. Looking forward to seeing you in January.
ASAC - News in Brief
The After School Club staff would like to wish all parents and carers a brilliant festive break with your children. We're all very thankful for the presents we have received and we're looking forward to time with family and friends. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
BSC - News in Brief
The last week has crept up on us! The children have managed to pack in lots of games, singing, dancing and craft activities. The story this week was 'Rudey's Windy Christmas' by Helen Baugh. "Oh dearie me!" said Rudey. "Now I've done a windy pop! This is a bit embarrassing. I'll do my best to stop." Rudey has eaten too many sprouts and the explosive effects are smelt all around the world as he helps Santa deliver presents on Christmas Eve. The other reindeer laughed so hard that they ran out of steam to fly! Can your child tell you how Santa still managed to deliver all the presents and what were the elves complaining about when they returned home? (Mrs Claus had also been eating sprouts!) All the BSC team wish all the children and their families a wonderful holiday and a very Happy New Year. See you in 2018.
