Last week we said farewell to Lauren Scanga who with her husband Micah has moved on to new adventures in California!  Lauren, 4-H Youth Development Regional Specialist, was based in the WSU Grant Co Moses Lake office spending the last three and half years covering the Grant, Adams & Lincoln area and recently had oversight for the Chelan-Douglas 4-H program as well. She will be missed by all in Extension and 4-H!
We thank Lauren for her leadership, wisdom and care of 4-H programming in our rural counties!  We wish her and Micah the best!!

Moving forward, in addition to her other duties, Bridget Rohner, WSU Human Development Educator, has oversight for the Lincoln-Adams 4-H Youth Development Program. Randy Williams is still the Lincoln-Adams 4-H Program Coordinator (part time appointment.) With the transition of the Othello area 4-H program from Grant Co. to Lincoln-Adams Extension oversight, his time will be more focused on the Adams Co. area. Jeannie Kiehn, in the Moses Lake office, will continue to assist with some 4-H support during the Extension management transition for Othello area 4-H.  And I (Karen Robertson) in my role as WSU Extension Program Assistant, continue to focus the majority of my time on Lincoln-Adams 4-H support for faculty and volunteers, including the 4hOnline enrollment system and on-line communications.

If you have any questions or concerns, please use the listing at the end of this E-News letter for contact details.

Pig Tags are Available to Pick-Up
at The Moses Lake Extension Office

Again this year, the Grant County Fair 4-H/FFA Livestock Sale Committee is requiring all 4-H clubs and FFA chapters to tag their pigs for the Grant County Fair prior to arriving at the fair.  Swine leaders or FFA advisors may pick-up fair tags for individuals in their club/chapter between now and August 1st at the WSU Extension Office in Moses Lake or by other arrangements with Sarah Smith.

Grant County Fair ─ Pre-Tagging For Pigs is Required.
Club leaders and advisors should tag pigs with the designated tags at the farm so the pigs arrive at the fair with tags in the pigs’ ears.  Do not bring the pigs to the Extension office or the Fairgrounds.

If you would like to schedule to pick-up tags for your club please email Sarah Smith at smithsm@wsu.edu or 509-754-2011, Ext 4363.

Looking for a Few Great Host Families

Hosting dates are July 22 – August 17, 2018
Experience the richness of the world in your own home this summer.

Washington 4-H International Exchange offers families statewide, the opportunity to host a youth delegate from Japan or South Korea for a 4 week homestay. Youth delegates are ages 12-17 and eager to make new friends, improve their English, share their culture, and experience real American family life in Washington.

Host families need to have a child of the same gender and within 3-4 years of the delegate’s age. We’re currently recruiting host families for boys ranging in age from 13 – 17. Host families provide a bed and meals. No special activities are required, and host families do not need to be members of 4-H.

In addition we’re looking for a host family for  a chaperone for 2 weeks, from August 5-17. Our South Korean chaperone is a 31 year old female high school Agriculture teacher. She’d love to see all kinds of agriculture in Washington. Since she’s spending 2 weeks in western Washington, it only seems fair that she should also have a 2 week stay in central or eastern Washington. (Approximately Aug. 4 - 17) Chaperones can be hosted by any type of family or individual, no children required.

Do you have room in your life this summer for an amazing cultural experience?
For more information contact State Coordinator, Dianna Ullery at 360-867-2153, dianna.ullery@wsu.edu
