Apply for the 2017 Master's Degree programme


The application process for the International Joint MSc Programme “Geography of Environmental Risks and Human Security” is now open. The two year Master of Science programme is administered by The United Nations University Institute for Environment and Human Security (UNU-EHS) and the Department of Geography at the University of Bonn (GIUB). Since its launch in October 2013, a total of 98 students from 26 different countries have been studying within the Master’s programme. Application deadline for the MSc programme is 15 January, 2017.

Climate change, migration and the rights of children

Almost 20 million people were displaced from natural disasters in 2015 alone, the majority climate-related. A large proportion of the displaced are children, whether through voluntary or forced climate change related mobility. It is essential to recognize the relationship between climate change, migration and children’s rights, which has so far been largely overlooked in research, program design and policy-making.

Strong partnerships for research with impact


The Mekong delta of Vietnam experienced unprecedented saline water intrusion in early 2016 impacting its soils, rivers and groundwater resources. Salinity intrusion is one of the main research area of the DeltAdapt project which is funded by BMBF and brings together a range of experts from Germany and Vietnam. The aim is to better understand environmental, social and policy changes shaping agricultural challenges and adaptation options in Vietnamese deltas.

The report was launched at the UNFCCC Conference of the Parties (COP 22) in Marrakesh, Morroco.

New scholarship opportunities for the joint Master’s degree from the University of Bonn and UNU – EHS

The University of Bonn and the United Nations University Institute for Environment and Human Security (UNU-EHS) are delighted to announce that thanks to support from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) they will be offering up to eight fully funded scholarships to students from developing countries for the Joint Master of Science (M.Sc.) programme “Geography of Environmental Risks and Human Security.” The scholarship scheme will run for the next eight years and is targeted at students from developing countries.
 

Survey 


The UNU Vice Rectorate in Europe (located in Bonn, Germany) is undergoing an external evaluation, as required through its Memorandum of Understanding with the German BMBF. This evaluation is performed by IDEA Consult (Brussels) and will cover the activities of the Vice Rectorate, its positioning and role in both the UN(U) system and the local science and policy community.
