Thank You For Your Support of UT This Legislative Session
Thank you for your support during the 2016 legislative session.
As you know, we faced tough questions from legislators over the past few months—many centered on how we run UT. They ranged from how we set tuition, to how we assign program dollars, to how we provide campus safety.
We had frequent contact with elected officials over the course of the session, and we hoped the legislature would understand our need to support and advance a culture of diversity and inclusion on our campuses. As you know, $436,000 in funding for the UT Knoxville Office for Diversity and Inclusion was cut, and I am disappointed by the loss of those important inclusion and diversity programs.
Please know that our commitment to diversity and inclusion hasn’t changed, and I will be working with Chancellor Cheek to address how he plans to move forward.
I have been especially grateful for the way our campuses stood up for the value of diversity. Across our campuses and institutes, we are a diverse UT family. And we are a family that stands up for itself.
