Week 1 – Training – The first step to increase safety
Safety is a vital part of any operation and we are committed to sharing the latest innovations and good practice advice through our latest campaign – FLTA Safety Drive 2020. This week we focus on the vital part training plays in keeping your operation and staff safe.
Engineer Training

Many engineers are capable of conducting routine tasks. However, some are not sufficiently skilled to complete more complex repairs.
Investing in regular training courses for staff is a great way to bolster their skills and this will have positive effects on the performance of the business as a whole.

Features & Benefits
  • Reduce downtime for you and your customer by having qualified engineers on hand to diagnose and repair faults
  • Faster repair times through quicker fault diagnostics
  • Qualified engineers will improve life expectancy of forklift trucks by maintaining and repairing them to a high standard
  • Using qualified engineers will improve reliability and productivity of forklift trucks as they will be able to fix a wider range of issues than an unskilled engineer.
  • Competent and efficient engineers will deliver higher job completion rates
  • Increase staff retention and loyalty by investing in your staff
Driver Training

Employers operating forklift equipment have a legal responsibility to ensure their staff receive basic MHE training and testing from accredited instructors. This complies with UK law and meets the requirements for insurance purposes.

Features & Benefits
  • Trained drivers are less likely to cause damage to the equipment, reducing downtime and cost of repairs
  • Improved operator performance will increase productivity
  • Qualified drivers are less likely to be involved in a collision with other vehicles or pedestrians
Management Safety Training

The roles and responsibilities of those in warehousing and operations can be varied and generic courses often do not cover the requirements of your forklift supervisors and managers. Management training can be tailored to your operation offering a bespoke solution for your training needs.

Features & Benefits
  • Training enables managers to assess and control workplace risks increasing safety in your business, reducing the risk of injury and prosecution
  • Greater productivity as fewer hours are lost to sickness and accidents
  • A top down approach helps you improve the safety awareness culture in your organisation
  • Enhance your reputation by embedding safety and health across your business.
  • Develop existing staff offering them career progression within your organisation to increase staff retention
Refresher Training

Training should be ongoing to ensure staff maintain the good practices they have learnt. Refresher training builds on existing capabilities and offers the opportunity to identify areas for improvement.

Features & Benefits
  • Refresher training enables staff to maintain good habits and learn new skills where appropriate
  • If a member of staff has been involved in an accident or near-miss, refresher training can be used to identify cause and prevent future incidents
  • Refresher training is useful for staff returning after lengthy periods away from work or occasional users of equipment increasing productivity and safety in the operation
