Halfway Point--Time for Your YTD Budget to Actual Check

by Scott Palka, CFA at PBO

Just like baseball, business is at the All Star Break in July

For most of you, July represents the half way point for 2016 results.  This is an excellent time for business owners to review their performance to budget for the first six months of the year (you do have a budget, right?), as well as determining what adjustments may be needed.  The job of management is not to predict the future, it’s to pave the way for the future.

With that in mind, here are nine (9) areas you want to address now to help pave the way for the second half of the year:

The City of San Diego's Earned Sick Leave  & Minimum Wage Ordinance

by Laura Nieman, HR and Operations Manager at PBO

The San Diego City Council is considering an Implementing Ordinance to update the Earned Sick Leave and Minimum Wage Ordinance.  If and when this gets approved, we will update you on how this will impact your business.  In the meantime, key points are:
  • Employees who work at least two hours within the geographic boundaries of the City of San Diego are entitled to at least 40 hours of paid sick leave per year and current minimum wage of $10.50 per hour effective July 11, 2016
  • There are posting & notification requirements for both minimum wage and sick leave.  We can provide those to you with instructions or they are available at the City’s website.
Please consult with your HR professional to ensure that you are compliant with all aspects of both the minimum wage and sick leave requirements, payroll, and postings.  We can help you with auditing, compliance and handbooks!
