April is Month of the Military Child!
April is designated as the Month of the Military Child, underscoring the important role military children play in the armed forces community.

Many organizations in Western New York hold conferences for youth with disabilities and /or their family. Often these conferences have a registration fee or additional costs to attend, which could prevent individuals from attending.

Library Research Study - Please Help!
Westchester Institute for Human Development (WIHD) is a local organization that provides services and supports for individuals with disabilities and their families/caregivers. They are currently conducting a research study to better understand library accessibility for individuals with disabilities.

I’m a 28-year-old who has cerebral palsy. I work part time, drive a car, and lead a happy and fulfilling life. I had a mainstream/inclusive education and to look at my grades you would think my school life had been a dream. Join 21_Connect Saturday, April 29th for a specialized workshop on behavior and Down Syndrome. Author of the popular book, Supporting Positive Behavior in Children and Teens with Down Syndrome: The Respond but Don't React Method, Dr. David Stein of Boston will be in Buffalo to present the basic neuroscience of Down Syndrome, and how this informs effective behavior management.
 
Patients with Special Needs Treated as Part of Give Kids a Smile Day
The University of Buffalo’s School of Dental Medicine is the only university in the nation to treat patients with special needs as a part of Give Kids a Smile Day. This year, dozens of students with special needs joined hundreds of Buffalo high school students at the annual event, which aims to promote good dental health habits in young people.

Preparing for Your Child’s Annual IEP Review

An annual review is a Committee on Special Education (CSE) meeting to plan for the next school year. This workshop will help families and educators prepare for annual reviews. Topics to be covered include pre-meeting preparation, development of an Individualized Education Program, and tips to help families and educators collaborate in designing an appropriate program for a student.
