Kia ora <<First Name>>,

I believe the children are our future Teach them well and let them lead the way Show them all the beauty they possess inside Give them a sense of pride...

So sang Whitney Houston, and so say all of us! NZCF has recently applied to the Ministry of Culture and Heritage for funding to support group singing in primary schools, as well as funding to help keep our rangatahi singing after they leave school. As part of the MCH assessment process, you have an opportunity to give feedback on whether you think our initiatives are needed. Children's singing is a major theme in this month's eBreve, with news of the brand new NZ Children's Choral Academy, a report on recent Kids Sing festivals in Wellington and Hamilton, and a reminder of NZCF's Hear Our Voices handbook for leaders of children's choirs.

Looking ahead to the summer months, we feature SingFests coming up in Nelson and Invercargill in December, the Teapot Summer School in January, and another Nelson SingFest in February! And although July 2024 may seem a long way off, it's time now to start planning to take your choir to the 13th World Choir Games in Auckland!

Also in this edition of eBreve, we look back on Choral Connect ’21 and share a video featuring Venezuelan-born Cristian Grases, Associate Professor of Choral Music at University of Southern California, whose presentation explores the way in which conducting and composing go hand in hand.

World Choir Games in Auckland
We can't wait to host the World Choir Games in Auckland in July 2024! Now's the time to start thinking about participating in the largest choral event to ever come to our shores. You'll find information for NZ choirs on our website.
Looking back on The Kids Sing
Wellington and Hamilton were filled with song this past week, with almost 600 children taking part in The Kids Sing festivals. These annual events offer opportunities for primary and intermediate students to enjoy performing for each other in a fun and supportive environment.
Support our MCH application
We have recently applied to the Ministry for Culture and Heritage for funds to support singing in primary schools and to keep young people singing after they leave high school. We'd love you to show your support for our initiatives by taking the the short MCH survey .
Teapot Summer School beckons
As the weather warms up and you make your summer plans, why not consider joining the fun at the Teapot Summer School in sunny Nelson next January? Registrations are now open on their website, where you can also learn more about the repertoire and guest conductor Ebbe Munk.
Launch of a new choral academy
Elise Bradley and Karen Grylls launched the New Zealand Children's Choral Academy last month, with a course in Auckland involving a number of choral leaders and singers. Click through to read more about this exciting new venture promoting excellence in choral education.
Cristian Grases at Choral Connect
In our latest video release from last year's Choral Connect conference, Venezuelan-born conductor and composer Cristian Grases uses some of his own choral compositions to explore how composing and conducting go hand in hand.
