BBC and Discovery have struck a deal to form a wildlife subscription streaming service, as part of a new partnership between the two broadcasters. The service will be owned by Discovery, with the BBC licensing its entire library of natural history programming. The news comes a week after Netflix's announcement of its multi-year deal with Blue Planet II creator, James Honeyborne, to make science and nature programming.

CBS-backed Smithsonian channel is expanding into Europe with a UK launch scheduled next week, while MTV has also earmarked the UK for launch of its direct-to-consumer MTV Play service. Meanwhile, Discovery and TVN-backed Polish SVoD service will also launch an international offer in the UK.

Altice Europe is looking to sell its Portuguese fibre business, while Swiss telecom provider, Sunrise, has confirmed it is looking to purchase UPC Switzerland from Liberty Global. With increasing pressure to comply with pending European content quotas, Netflix continues its investment in local production, with five new Spanish originals in development.

In sports, NBC Sport Group and golfer Rory McIlroy are collaborating on a new direct-to-consumer golf subscription streaming package, Golfpass, and Eleven Sports is in talks with Portuguese TV platforms to broadcast its premium sports channels.
