Alex Day at Heide

Catherine had her free day at NGV - now its Alex's turn!

Sunday 6 December is Alex Day at Heide Museum of Modern Art, and we're inviting all Alexes to enjoy free entry to Heide’s current exhibitions, including Aleks Danko: MY FELLOW AUS-TRA-ALIENS and Alex Selenitsch: LIFE/TEXT.

At 2pm, Aleks Danko and Alex Selenitsch will discuss the use of language and text in their art practices, and the ideas that have underpinned their work from the 1960s to today. Visitors named Alex, Alec, Aleks, Alexander, Alexandra, Alix, Alexis – or any variation thereof, get free admission all day (10am-5pm).

Alex Selenitsch has a long connection to Heide as a result of his friendship with Sweeney Reed. This five-decade survey of Selenitsch’s career displays concrete poems alongside his poem–prints, artist’s books, collages and sculptures.

Aleks Danko uses language as the starting point for much of his work, transforming phrases, speech and rhymes into concrete form or rearticulating them through performance to highlight issues of social and political concern.
