Four Water Safety Tips to Keep Your Kids Safe

1. Boating Safety with a Baby - Many wonder if it's safe to boat with a baby onboard. As long as they're in a life jacket labeled 'infant' or '30 lbs or less', they'll be safe. Don't put your baby in a car seat in the boat, as it sinks quickly.
2. Give Tips - Remind your kids the following: never enter without an adult present, use railings when on a dock or don't go near the edge, walk instead of run on docks, keep long hair tied back, and exercise causation when jumping or diving off the edge of a dock.
3. Swim Lessons - One of the best things for children to learn is how to swim. Take the time to enroll your children in swim lessons. It's the best way to prevent an accident near water. Children can start swim lessons as early as six months, unless a pediatrician recommends otherwise.
4. Life Jackets 101 - Young kids should always be in a life jacket if they're near water. Also, as kids get older and bring friends over, make sure you have enough appropriately sized life jackets for all kids near the water.

Meet our Team

Our February employee highlight is the chief himself, Zach Sherwin. Since 2004 when he started the biz, Zach has loved helping others with their boat lift and dock needs. As an avid outdoorsman, Zach would choose water over land any day of the week. His favorite activities include wakeboarding, slalom skiing, boating, traveling, snowmobiling and spending time with his family - his wife, Kim, and their two children, Taylor and Scotty. In honor of the upcoming St. Pat's Day, Zach wanted to include his favorite irish portrait (above) for this feature.

Product Highlights

With the continual change in Nebraska and Iowa weather patterns, lake water levels are constantly changing. The best maintenance-free and weather resistant dock options are floating docks. As they continue to grow in popularity, we want to educate you on two of our favorites.

Hewitt Floating Aluminum Dock with Aluminum Decking

This Hewitt dock is great for fluctuating waters and is low maintenance  This dock provides a nice, clean look and a maintenance-free decking in either white or tan colored aluminum decking.

ShoreMaster Floating Galvanized Dock with Concrete Decking

The ShoreMaster floating concrete dock with galvanized frame and concrete decking is great for areas with high wind and lots of wave action. This will withstand the worst weather conditions the Midwest can offer.
