New Student Orientation
On January 21st, 2017, 300 sophomores from Houston ISD and Spring Branch ISD were inducted into the EMERGE program. Students and their families attended New Student Orientation (NSO) to participate in cohort building, learn about how EMERGE will support them on their journey to and through college and so much more. 
Welcome New EMERGE Board Members
This month, the EMERGE Board engaged in a half-day retreat at Rice University to discuss the most important decisions facing EMERGE students and their families.

We also welcomed three new EMERGE board members: Pedro Caruso, Erin Rice Patterson and Maria Zerr. Thank you for committing to the EMERGE vision and welcome to the team!
EMERGE Mentorship Program Spotlight:
Mentor: Manolo Sanchez, BBVA Compass
Mentee: Isaac Toscano, Westside High School (HISD)
In October, with the support of Laura and John Arnold, we launched the 2016-2017 mentor program. Through the mentor program, EMERGE seniors are paired with Houston area professionals who provide advice on college & career, job shadowing opportunities, and much more. We are thankful to the many professionals in the Houston area who have volunteered to mentor EMERGE students this year. Interested in mentoring for the 2017 - 2018 school year? Sign up here.
Celebrating Early College Acceptances
Congratulations to our EMERGE High School Fellows across Houston ISD and Spring Branch ISD who have been accepted Early Decision to top-tier colleges and universities across the country. Our Fellows have received acceptances from: Boston College, Cornell University, Brandeis University, Colby College, Georgetown University, Wellesley College, Harvard University, Swarthmore College and Syracuse University to name a few. 
EMERGE College Tours 2017
EMERGE Fellows will attend tours in Western New York, Massachusetts, Central New York/Connecticut and Pennsylvania. During our visit, we aim to expose students to large research universities, small liberal arts colleges, women's colleges and Ivy League universities. 
Thought Leadership, Collaboration and Partnership in Action
Join EMERGE Director of Program Strategy, Felicia Martin and our partners in college access Erika Scott (SBISD), Patty Williams-Downs (OneGoal) and Jeremy Tatum (HISD) as they present "Unbuilt Bridges: Unique Student Support Systems in Unprecedented Times" on Sunday April 23rd from 9AM-Noon at the Texas Association for College Admission Counseling (TACAC) Conference. We are excited to collaborate with our district partners to share what we have learned with other college access leaders across Texas.
