Dear Supporters—

September has been an exciting month for EMERGE. We launched our new partnership in Spring Branch Independent School District (SBISD)—our first expansion site—serving more than 100 students across the district.

Additionally, in the Houston Independent School District (HISD), Program Managers have been working around the clock to ensure that every EMERGE senior is prepared and on track to apply to the nation’s top colleges by December. This year, we have 160 seniors in HISD—our largest class yet!

Last but certainly not least, 97 EMERGE students from the class of 2015 started college this month at 63 top tier colleges and universities across the country. Our impact is growing, and in four years, these students will return to Houston to become the next generation of leaders in our city.

EMERGE FELLOWS ATTEND SMITH COLLEGE ALUMNI EVENT AT THE HOUSTONIAN

President McCartney of Smith College welcomed seven EMERGE Fellows to a Houston-area alumni gathering this past month at The Houstonian. Fellows had the opportunity to learn more about Smith College and network with local alumni. Karen Banda, an EMERGE Scholar who interned with the organization this past summer, is currently a sophomore at Smith College . Read more about her experience here.

EMERGE LAUNCHES IN SPRING BRANCH ISD

We are currently working with Spring Branch ISD district leaders to identify, recruit, and select our first cohort of students in Spring Branch ISD. In January, EMERGE will welcome 100 sophomores and juniors from five SBISD high schools into the program. Read more about our Spring Branch ISD partnership here.

WELCOME NEW PROGRAM MANAGERS

This month, we hired two new staff members at EMERGE. Abigayl Flores and Sandra Nuñez will be working directly with students at our partner schools in Spring Branch ISD. They will be responsible for implementing curriculum that prepares students for top-tier college admission. Read more about their journey to EMERGE here.

EMERGE WILL SERVE 660 HISD STUDENTS THIS SCHOOL YEAR

This school year, EMERGE will serve 660 Fellows across more than 40 HISD high school campuses. Read more about EMERGE in HISD here.
