Dear friends,

Recently both Europe and Asia-Pacific had an interesting real-life meeting. FYEG had their General Assembly in Georgia, the Asia-Pacific Greens met in New-Zealand, including a few Young Greens! Read more about it in our newsletter!

Congress in Istanbul is not going to take place

GYG has been working very hard over the past months to get the funding for the planned congress in Istanbul this summer. Unfortunately we did not get enough money to be able to organise a proper congress. Therefore we decided to not organise the congress this summer. We are very sorry for you, and also disappointed that we did not succeed in organising. We will keep you updated on further planning for our fourth GYG congress.

GYG towards COP21

In December this year, the UN climate conference is going to take place in Paris. Together with the whole global civil society, we need to put pressure on global leaders in favour of an ambitious binding climate agreement. We will co-organise an alter-COP summit with the Federation of Young European Greens and Jeunes Ecologistes from France, and GYG will fundraise to get young greens from different continents to this event. Very soon you will receive a call for participants. Stay updated!

Is your organisation a member of GYG?

Since 2012, all our member organisations need to be registered as such. So far, not all member organisations from Asia-Pacific, Africa and America actually register. Please take a moment to check your organisation actually applied here:

If your organisation is not on the list, don't worry! Just ask the legal representative of your organisation to fill the form here.

Asia-Pacific

From June 12th to June 14th, the Asia-Pacific Greens had their next Congress in New Zealand. Young Greens of Asia Pacific took this as an opportunity to meet! You can learn everything about the Asia-Pacific Greens Congress by visiting their website.

Zane, Steering Committee Member of GYG, was also present.

Europe

From the 4th to the 7th of July, the Federation of Young European Greens had their annual General Assembly, and this year it took place in Tbilisi, Georgia. From GYG, both Jeroni and Antoine were attending the GA to promote GYG.

During the GA, the climate campaign towards the COP21 was launched, with the hashtag #itsourfuckingfuture. You can read more about the GA here.

Americas

The Green Parties in the Americas are organizing their congress in November, in the Dominican Republic. During this event, the Young Greens in the Americas will take the opportunity to have their event at the same time. Every party will bring their youth wing to the congress. For more information, contact Bernardo or Tanya.

Mediterranean

Call for a Network for Nuclear Free Mediterranean

Turkey’s plans to establish nuclear power stations in the Eastern Mediterranean date back to 1970s. It has now moved to realise these plans by making an government level agreement with Russia in 2010.  Not only does Turkey’s decision pose a risk to the future of the Mediterranean, but it also contravenes  the Mediterranean Action Plan, established under the auspices of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) with 16 Mediterranean countries and the European Union in 1975, and the Barcelona Agreement, formed in 1995 and expanded in 2002, where Turkey is a party.

In order not to go through a catastrophe in the Mediterranean one day, to avoid radioactivity moving into the Mediterranean, and to prevent this venture that will spoil the nature and the ecological balance of the Mediterranean, the Network for a Nuclear Free Mediterranean has to be constituted today!
