MAS Digital Fabrication:
Call for Applications

In September a new Master of Advanced Studies (MAS) ETH in Architecture and Digital Fabrication will be offered by the NCCR Digital Fabrication and the Gramazio Kohler Research Chair at ETH Zurich. The focus of the one-year-fulltime programme will lie on digital design and fabrication at full scale using the state of the art robotic fabrication facilities of the ETH. Interested candidates are invited to apply until April 30.

The NCCR Digital Fabrication

The National Centre of Competence in Research (NCCR) Digital Fabrication is an ambitious research initiative that unifies leading researchers in the field of architecture, engineering, robotics, material and computer sciences. Together, they are investigating innovative technologies and processes with the goal to extend the potential of digital fabrication into the field of architecture. The NCCR are an instrument of the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) to promote research in areas of strategic importance for the future of Swiss science, economy and society. The NCCR Digital Fabrication was initiated by ETH Zurich and is unique worldwide in its scope and focus on the future of architecture and construction.

Cameras, Lasers and radio waves


The coordination of design, material, and assembly technologies is a multi-faceted problem being addressed by a number of projects within the NCCR Digital Fabrication. One of the most challenging issues to overcome though, is how to maintain build accuracy at the large architectural scale. Cameras, lasers and radio waves are among the technologies being researched within this NCCR, with the goal of improving both the precision and context awareness of robots for on-site construction.

Open positions for Assistant Professors

Within the NCCR Digital Fabrication at ETH Zurich two positions for Assistent Professors are to be occupied. The Assistant Professor of Progressive Building Technologies at the Department of Architecture will focus on digital design and fabrication processes. The Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) of Robotic Systems at the Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering will develop research in the area of design, modeling, intelligent control and industrial environments or disaster areas. The closing date for applications for both positions is 31 March 2015.
