Happy New Year to our members, 

We hope you had a great break over the holidays and are back into your training routines as the 2016 season is about to start!

As our 2016 Club Champs League is about to start in February its a great time to get your 2016 membership fees sorted! You will find the link to complete your registration and pay your fees below. We also have important information below regarding qualification dates and potential dates for OWNZ events. 

Also, our website is now up to date with 2016 information and this will be updated as the year progresses. If there is something you are looking for and you can't find it then please let us know and we can try source this information for you.

Our 2016 Calendar is LIVE!

The OWNZ Executive Group has confirmed and discussed some potential dates for the following National Events:
  • National Secondary School Championships - Saturday 3rd September (CONFIRMED)
  • North & South Island Championships - Start of July (Date TBC as we work with potential hosting clubs & venues)
  • National Senior & Junior Championships - Start of October (Date TBC as we work with the hosting club & venue availability)

2016 Oceania Weightlifting Championship Information

Qualification Reminder
  • Qualification period ends on the 1st of March 2016. Standards can be found HERE
  • Athletes considered for selection MUST be 2016 registered competitive members
  • The NZ Team will be announced in March. As the Senior competition is the Rio Olympics Regional Qualifier tactical selections are likely in order to gain the necessary placings in the teams competitions.    
  • Travel plans are already well underway flights are expected to depart NZ Saturday 21st May and return Sunday 29th May.
  • Given the importance of the Olympic Qualifier we are hoping that for the Senior Team and Support Team will receive a significant amount of funding. Juniors and Youth will be self funded.       
Support Staff Call for Expressions of Interest
  • The following 7 positions are available in the support staff team assisting our athletes at this international event:

    Team Manager, Assistant Manager, and 5 Team Coaches
  • The OWNZ EG are calling for expressions of interest for these positions 
  • Please submit a short blurb on reasons why you are a suitable candidate for the position/s stated above
  • These are due by 31st January to and will be passed onto the OWNZ EG for selection
HP Squad Training Camp 
  • The High Performance Training Camp will now be held from Wednesday 20th - Saturday 23rd April at the Millennium Institute in Auckland.
    Please note the change in date compared to the first dates that were released in our Calendar.
  • The High Performance Squad of approx 15 Men and 10 Women will be named shortly. This squad will be selected to prepare for the 2018 Gold Cost Commonwealth Games.
  • The High Performance Squad and Oceania Support staff are expected to attend the training camp. The camp and travel to and from it is expected to be fully funded.
  • An Emerging HP Squad will also be named with a longer term focus for the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Some of this squad may receive an invitation to attend part of the training camp subject to funding being available. 

2016 Weightlifting Masters World Cup

11th - 15th April Tokyo, Japan

We have received interest from 4 OWNZ masters athletes for permission to attend this international event. The Executive Group has approved this request and would like to announce to all OWNZ Masters members that if you show interest in attending, and you hold a reputable background in competing in NZ then OWNZ would support your attendance as well. 

Please note that no costs will be covered by OWNZ but you will be representing NZ at this event so congratulations to the four members representing us on the World Stage in April!
