Welcome to your January Chamber newsletter,

I hope you and your teams are well and are able to stay positive during these difficult times. The Chancellor’s recent announcement of one-off grants for businesses in the retail, hospitality and leisure sectors is welcome but we believe it isn’t enough.

We recognise that all businesses across Calderdale, Kirklees and Wakefield have been operating under some of the tightest restrictions for the past ten months and are suffering as a result. Together with the British Chambers of Commerce we are continuing to lobby the Government to set out a clear support package for the whole of 2021 - not just until the Spring.

MYKickstart
I am delighted to share that through our MYKickstart programme, 68 job placements have been approved from 21 employers across our region. This is fantastic news as these businesses can now access vital Government funding, all while helping a young person onto the career ladder in these increasingly challenging times. If you would like to register for the programme or find out some more information, please visit www.mykickstart.org.uk

EU-UK arrangements
Following recent changes to the UK-EU trade and cooperation arrangements, it is vital that organisations dealing with the EU are up to speed on the new rules. Click here for an analysis of the new arrangements and please get in touch with our MY Export Hub team if you have any concerns or queries.

As we endure this third lockdown, please remember that your Chamber is here for you through these challenging times and beyond. Please make use of our events and networking sessions, as well as our many support benefits including export services, healthcare packages, tax and legal support, and much more. Don’t forget that our team is reachable on getconnected@mycci.co.uk should you have any queries.

I look forward to speaking to you all this month as we navigate the new year together.

Martin Hathaway
Managing Director
