Happy New Year!

It's Here!  It's finally 2023!  I am getting older, and the year seems to go by quickly!  This past year was filled with many significant events at both galleries.  It was great to see so many clients who were back traveling.  The 100th Anniversary of Santa Fe Indian Market was fun and a great success for all involved.

First, my thanks to YOU!  We have the best collectors!  It is excellent to continually work with people who are always eager for education, excited by new art, supportive of young and established artists, and continue to be advocates for the gallery and Native art.  To say I am appreciative is not enough, but I am grateful to come into the gallery every day and interact, educate, and learn from each of you.  Thank you!

In the galleries, we continue to have outstanding teams in both Arizona and Scottsdale.  Our employees, Jude, Jane, Stephanie, Joseph, and Karla, do an extraordinary job each day in the galleries.  Thanks also to each of the gallery artists who exhibit their artistic talents in the gallery and strive to bring in their best work, challenging us to keep evolving and growing.

Our focus this past year continued to support both young and established artists.  Each of our shows was an opportunity to see the unique creativity in Native pottery and paintings by regional artists. In addition, the response from our clients as they added to their collections allowed us to continue our mission and showcase the very best in Native pottery!
I want to express our continued gratitude to all the confidence of our artists and clients for participating in this journey.  I am hopeful for 2023.  I look positively to the future at the galleries as we continue with gallery shows and installations, shows online, creating more artist videos, continuing educational events, and daily online updates.  The last few years have made us more flexible with events beyond the galleries.  But, more importantly, I continue to see the lessons of unexpected compassion and kindness from the past several years as an imperative for the future.
Please continue to stay well, safe, and healthy.  I hope to see many of you in Scottsdale this Winter/Spring for our featured shows and events, including the Heard Indian Market, or next Spring/Summer in Santa Fe for the 101st Anniversary of the Santa Fe Indian Market!

It is more than a platitude that I genuinely wish you a
Happy, Healthy, and Prosperous New Year!
I am excited to hear from you with any questions or suggestions.

Charles S. King

Remembering 2022...
These are the "Top 9" Posts of 2022 for those of you who follow us on Instagram.  We had over 40,000 likes this year.  That's extraordinary.  Thank you, and if you don't mind following us on Instagram or Facebook, you are missing out!
These are the "Top Painting Posts of 2022".  We are pleased to have paintings by Andrew Florea, Marcia Molnar, Michael Esch, Mary Calengor, Andrea Vargas, Kwani Povi Winder, and Kenneth Ferguson.  Follow us on Instagram or Facebook, to see the newest work first!
I like looking at the previous year and seeing a few artists who have stopped by with new work.  It's exciting to represent some of the most prominent Native potters working today, and great to have their most innovative and exciting works in our galleries!
Over the past year, we have received phenomenal collections of important works by Margaret Tafoya, Maria Martinez, Tony Da, Joseph Lonewolf, Fannie Nampeyo, and others.  These signed historic pieces are a testament to the art form's vitality, quality, and longevity. Surrounded by pieces by Margaret Tafoya and Maria Martinez is always an honor! We love to educate and help people understand the importance, rarity, legacy, and impact of older pieces that come back into the gallery.  Finally, you get to hold a part of history in your hands!
In 2022 we saw the passing of some great Native potters.  This is the time to reflect on their art's beauty and contribution to the world of Native pottery.  Clockwise above, Adelphia Martinez, BJ Fragua, Clinton Nampeyo, Charles Navasie, Rachel Sahmie, and Dora Tse-Pe.
Our next event is our showing with Jared Tso in our Santa Fe gallery on Friday, January 6, from 5:30 to 7:30.  The show is entitled "How the Vessel is Used," and Jared's partner, Alexandria, will be creating food that accompanies the clay vessels.  Please let us know if you plan to attend and still need to RSVP.  It should be a LOT of fun!
Thanks to New Mexico Magazine for naming "Virgil Ortiz: Revolution" one of their favorite books of 2022!
Michael Esch has new oil paintings in our Santa Fe and Scottsdale galleries.  His landscapes have a photo-realistic style with amazing clouds.  He is best known for his very large-scale mural-size paintings (like the famous one at the Air Force Academy), but has finished a group of smaller ones for the galleries that are stunning in person!
